Maris Stella High School

Dear existing MSHS parents,
What is the recommended macbook air to get?
11 inch or 13 inch? Did you get those add on items such as eubiq plug/ insurance and superdrive? Are those necessary? -
My DS should be getting the 13\" without the add-on.
Now headache on school bag selection. Any suggestions?
Today's registration was short and sweet and I appreciate the fact that the Principal encourage the boys from affiliation to assist those pupils from non-affiliation schools. My DS felt more at ease now

After speaking the IT folks at home, likely to get 13\" 128gb. We can always add on external hard disk (significantly larger capacity at cheaper rate) later on. They also told me having external disk also forms as a good source of backup. We will most likely get the insurance given the value involved. Dd1 is in a IT focused sec school too that uses slate but we didn't buy insurance since it is much cheaper than the MacBook. My DS should be getting the 13\" without the add-on.

For school bag, have gotten ds a samsonite bag that is laptop friendly but not those heavy types.
Totally agree on the principal. Nice gesture to assure non-affiliated boys and there are quite a lot of non-affiliated boys. This is the first time I see/ hear the principal. Surprised he is young but the values are very \"chinese old school\" but I think it is good for the boys from a value perspective. So far the maris boys that we come across are friendly and inclusive. Ds is looking forward to gg to school.
Yes looking forward to the transformation from ah boy to gentleman

Btw, lots of positive changes this year and we think they are a lucky batch to benefit. Hcl for all sec 1s. This is good and they are after all a sap school.
No streaming based on Tscore. Mixed abilities class. That is a good initiative too. -
Thanks MMM for sharing.
We saw the Samsonite Red backpack but seems alittle too big for my DS that's why we are still searching. Will check out Samsonite again.
Maybe our DS will be in the same class.
Await for 31 Dec to know the class allocation -
For my ds in sec 1 tis yr, we got him a Dakine backpack with padded laptop sleeve and padded bottom panelβ¦and reminded him not to throw his backpack on the floor with the MacBook in it!
-
Where can we get the Dakine backpack? Thanks!

We got the bag from World of Sports Store.
Can consider Deuter backpacks too. -

On the topic on school bags, our teenagers/ soon-to-be teenagers probably has a mind of their own... dd told me that Jansport? is considered as cool. We came across those SPI bags at Isetan and she was like no one carries such bag to school in secondary school. So might be good to involve our soon-to-be gentleman in the selection process. We got the bag from World of Sports Store.

In dd's case, observed that while they carry their slate to school, most will use normal school bag (not necessarily laptop friendly ones). They will usually put it in the computer sleeve to protect their slate. Note that some laptop friendly bags can be heavy. So we prefer the lighter ones.
Last night we brought them to apple shop to see the macbook. While dh and I thought the 11 inch was compact and nice. The \"teenagers\" were like 13 inch is cool... It's big!!! Big??? Wow interesting to realize that we do have \"generation gap\" when it comes to \"taste\" now. -
:rotflmao: same reaction from my DD re the SPI bag!
Yesterday we went to Nex Nubox to check out the Mac and similarly DD told the brother to get 13\"..... Good for Youtube!!
Will bring DS along for school bag shopping today.
