[Geylang] Primary Schools
-
ngsuing:
If you are in P2C choosing between these 2 schools, go for Haig Girls better.anyone knows which are the good school in Geylang, my girl went for balloting in MBS for P2C but fail to secure a place..
can any one advise..
I'm considering between Telok Kurau Primary and Haig Girl now..
But if you are in p2C Supp, choose the one that offer the highest chance of entering, without balloting.
Haig Girls most likely will ballot, at 2C Supp
If u ballot and still can't get in at p2C Supp, when Phase 3 comes and foreigners pour in like a flood gate, MOE will just post you to a school that has vacancies, can be far from where you stay, regardless of whether you like it or not. -

MOE will make sure all children who are eligible for earlier phases and unable to get places after P2CS have schools to go to before they open the registration to foreigners in Phase 3. -
qms:
once SC fail to ballot in at p2C Supp, dont forget that the schools left behind in p2C Supp with vacancies after 2C Supp balloting process, are even far more limited in choices than the schools before at the start of p2C Supp.
MOE will make sure all children who are eligible for earlier phases and unable to get places after P2CS have schools to go to before they open the registration to foreigners in Phase 3.
The choice of schools that are available in Phase 2C Supp, Are already so limited.
What more, when after the entire balloting process in p2C Supp, has ended ?
The P1 Registration exercise, has already come to p2C Supp.
Here, we are comparing before and after p2C Supp balloting process, has ended.
SC who want to ballot at p2C Supp must bear this fact in mind : even though you are given priority, before the foreigners.
In other words, it is possible that SC may be posted to schools far away, from where you stay, even though SC are given priority, before foreigners pour in. -
Hi there,
Have been reading the threads here with much interest. I have 2 girls '09 and '11 babies. Most likely will be registering #1 for Kong Hwa under P2A as I’m an alumni. Chinese values and language is very important to us as we are all Chinese-Ed in my family.
However, I have read about Haig Girls and it sounds like the perfect place for my #1 as she is more inclined towards the arts like drawing and dancing but is more introverted and at times lack self confidence. There is much reference to "holistic development" in Haig Girls and I wonder if parents of Haig Girls can elaborate more on this? Ie how do they focus more on character development and confidence building?
Question for parents of Kong Hwa - any difference with the change in principal?
Thanks very much! -

For primary schools, I recommend going for convenience than popularity. Reason is the kids are still young, and travelling time should not be long enough to tire them out, even for those driving. Have you seen children dozing off in the parents car (some in an awkward position, especially straining their necks) because they have to wait up earlier than their peers to reach these "better" schools to feed their parents "ego".
Please note that the above is just my PERSONAL view as I have gone through the phase when I had to choose a primary school based on school’s popularity and proximity. In the end, I enrolled my child in a neighbourhood school so that she could walk to my brother’s house after school where my sister-in-law could care for her and prepare her meals.
She excelled in the neighbourhood primary school(the principal is rather irritating and practise favoritism though, oops) without tuition and managed to be amongst the top 10 students for her PSLE year although it was so-called the "competitive" year of dragon babies. In fact, a number of my friends and neighbours’ children were from good schools like red swastika and maha bodhi but ended up in "neighbourhood" SECONDARY schools!
Therefore, for my younger child, I would be considering close proximity as my first factor for primary schools selection.
But it would be nice if the popular school is just a stone’s throw away from your house, both proximity and popularity are not an issue! Envious, envious, envious!! -

Who will apply under Phase 2B this year (July 2015), at Kong Hwa ?
PVs from SHHK, plus Grassroot staff from NC / RC, coming from Mountbatten Constituency, all falling under Phase 2B.
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissi ... f-schools/
NC : Neighbourhood committee
RC : Residential committee (for HDB flats)
These PVs that applied for Kong Hwa (KH) primary come from Sg Hokkien Clan Association (SHHK) directly.
No more PV attached to KH school, anymore.
All are attached to SHHK : clocking up PV duties, at SHHK premises.
