Hi, may I know which Literature text(s) are the current sec 1 girls reading this year?

Hi my gal just got into CHIJ TP this year and I regretted not reading this forum earlier, now I am really worried about all the negative things mentioned.


Since the last post about the school was in 2012, can I know if any parents with their girls there felt the same for the last 2 years?

You should not worry so much. This school is an above average neighborhood school with strong IJ traditions and alumni support. There are many past students who have excelled at pri and sec level and have done well in life. My older DD is from the TP IJ family since Pri 1. She finished her sec 4 2 years ago, chosen to pursue biomedical science at poly instead of doing her JC. She knows what field she wants to pursue and this is out of her ten years grooming at IJ school.

As with all schools, there are the good & the bad. Since yr dd has managed to get into this school (which is a band 2 - 3 school before it was abolished), you really should not worry too much.

My dd has just finished her 10 yr journey with IJ this year. I feel that the school has provided her with a very holistic education. It is the right fit for her & I don't think she wld be happier if she'd gone any other school. The school is strong in English & lit. Dd had made many good friends & her teachers are very dedicated (I don't if she's lucky or not). Thru'out the prelim leading to o level period, dd was able to text her school teachers to ask them any questions anytime of day & they will respond mostly within the day, incl weekends. The frequency increases as the o's approaches. I am really impressed & thankful for the level of support & dedication her teachers had shown. I wld like dd to present some tokens of appreciation to the teachers when she collects her results on Monday.

My gal is now in CHIJ sec…she was formerly from CHIJ Pri. I wrote earlier that I had reservation towards Sec sch as I had heard bad reviews and seen how some of the gals misbehaved. Naturally I thought twice about sending my gal to other schs. However, after several open house visit, my gal insisted to put IJ sec as first choice. So far, she is enjoying sec sch. I find her more sensible and responsible. There are on going class tests and she manages them herself…no more tuition and no need my nagging and reminders (I am so hand off and much more relaxed as well). There are some nice teachers (very interactive who always try to make the lessons interesting) and some boring teachers (who talk and talk non stop). My gal has gotten used to their teaching styles and learnt how to suck a mint under her tongue to keep herself awake during the lessons.

She told me she likes secondary sch even though she is always busy and tired as there are many life skills and character building, projects and workshop. Sometimes if she misses her primary sch teacher, she and a couple of friends will walk over to primary sch to look for them.
I noted that there are some gals that hang out in TPY Hub after school, I told her I give her permission to hang out with her friends once a month to unwind…she told me…neh…she just wanna go home and eat my home cooked lunch… (she only gets to come home early for lunch once a week)…I am touched but at the same time worried that she is not widening her social circle…
Overall, I am glad that we choose IJ sec as first choice…it is not a bad sch after all…

My ger is in P6 this year and her score is borderline. I am more concerned on her character and the environment factor. We are discussing to put her as Normal stream in this school. Any reviews about this school to share? Very much appreciated. Is the Academic more stressful compare to neighbourhood school? Does the school build up the student’s character? Thanks inadvance.
