Knowledge & Inquiry (KI)

BitterSweet:
just to confirm, Oxford emailed me back and said that they do recognise KI as a content subject
According to my seniors, most US unis recognise it (probably because US recognises a lot of non-traditional subjects like psychology, business, etc.) For UK unis, some do and some don't. LSE doesn't, but I think Oxbridge does. I just emailed Oxford to ask if they recognise it, I'll post their reply when I get it.godiva:
Is KI recognised as a H2 subject for overseas universities?
If one is applying to do Law, would one have an advantage taking KI rather than GP? For both local U as well as overseas universities?
As for whether it gives you an advantage, it depends on how well you can sell it. For example, in UK personal statements, they encourage you to talk about how the subjects you studied make you suited to study whatever course you're applying for, so if you can sell it well and convince them that KI has prepared you well for Law, then it could benefit you. -
Augmum:

I believe only 7 JCs offer KI. RI and HCI are two that I know of.

Temasek Junior College offer KI
most of the IP junior colleges offer KI -
Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know if this subj is popular?
What is the % of A or B grade for A levels?
Is it easy to score?
What must u be in good in order to do well - language or science or maths?
Sorry for asking so many questions but this subj is pretty new. Well, it’s not offered during my times. -

My cousin, who used to be a VP in a JC, told me that it is quite challenging - a lot of reading, research and independent learning. The student should also be a good writer. It can be quite time-consuming too, depending on the topic chosen. I think some (maybe all) JCs screen students before allowing them to opt for KI. Not sure about the results, but if students are screened first, I guess they would usually do fairly well. Thanks for sharing.

You need to take a placement test to qualify to take this subject. This explains how rigorous it is. So no, it is not popular because you can't take it just because you want it. You have to be selected to take it.Thanks for sharing.

It has nothing to do with science or math. It's got more to do with reasoning and thinking skills. I suppose you could say it's a bit like Philosophy, but not really.
My issue with it is it's not recognized by some overseas universities. So if your ds intends to go overseas for his uni, bear this in mind, because he would be effectively down to 3H2s and not 4H2s. -
NJC offers KI.
There is only 1 class taking KI 2014/2015.
There was a KI selection test for this year JAE students last Friday. -
I believe the 7 jcs are:
ACJC, CJC, HCI, NJC, RI, TJC, VJC

ACJC http://sites.acjc.edu.sg/wpress/?p=13679
CJC http://www.cjc.edu.sg/admission/subject-combinations
HCI/ RI (jtoh)
NJC (Jeniffer)
TJC (phtthp)
VJC (skyed)
It's also interesting to note that the subject started in 12 jcs and then reduced to 7. Referring to the 2013 parliamentary reply.
