      Hi,

I also want my boy try mainstream. But his doctor said some very mild kids also go PL, main reason is bully. For me,PL is like a heaven for our kids, but outside is real world. They have to live in the real world. So I may not consider PL. Another reason is my son good at Chinese, we don’t want to give up MTL.

Currently, my son did go enrichment classes as well as Ot/St. We will focus more on group therapy. I will see how he progress this year.

        Hi Niu2009,

My boy is mild ASD too. My boy's chinese cannot make it! My hubby feels my boy is normal just slow academically so he feels we should try mainstream although I'm worried about the bullying part. Like you say, they have to blend into the real world. What type of enrichment classes do you send your boy? What subjects? I thought of sending him to a P1 preparatory class.

Anyone has recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Every child is unique. My son is able to cope academically and his issues are mainly behavioural and social, so I have not sent him for any enrichment classes but only piano lessons to make sure he can follow teacher’s instructions.

Florencetks, you may have to look at your budget, your son’s needs. At one time, my son was doing OT and I did not see improvements so I ended up stopping all therapies and do them myself. For me, I assess the programme after 3-6 months.

            Hope it helps.

Did u guys read the latest report on O level results? A boy with Autism scored 7 points and aiming to proceed to Nanyang JC. So happy to hear such testimony.

I had wanted to send application to both mainstream and pathlight too. I thought at least I have pathlight as backup. But my husband said why should I subject my son to go through so many test and assessments knowing that we already wanted him to try mainstream first. I thought it through and agreed with my husband. So now we decided not to apply for pathlight after all. IF we eventually need to if he can't cope in mainstream, we will apply then.

I have just stopped my son's speech therapy cos I think we have met the initial objectives and now the next step is for him to move on to things like comprehension, creative writing. So we are going to replace his ST with I can read. So moving forward, he will have his twice mthly OT, I can read, swimming, TWD, Berries and Brainy Moves. Very siong on the pocket 😛

I think his social interaction is improving. He plays with friends and will ask them if they want to play with him. Just that he can be very curt and direct with them as if he scolding them. Also, sometimes, he doesn't follow the rules and insist his ways, that's when others are irritated with him.

Yah, his schedule is very full but we have already taken away two items. Now I am contemplating to stop his TWD as well cos I forsee when he goes P1 next year, he will be very tied up with school work and can't attend so many lessons. By then, I may have to stop OT too. So by next year, he may left with just I can Read, Berries, Swimming and Brainy moves.

                        Hi Double E,

Woah! I always wonder whether the day will come when my darling will be ‘freed’ from therapies like OT and ST. Both Niu2009 and you give me hope that it is possible! Thanks for sharing! Btw, what is TWD? Taiwan $? Hee… Hee…

Btw, you stopped neurofeedback for your son already?
