Are you suggesting try ITE first then go Poly then go uni as a more exciting route? :scratchhead:
wait I'm sorry, how is my post related to ite/poly/uni ?
IB is as conventional as A levelpirated:
What about sci for me?
I got nett of 6 points, 8-2
I wish to appeal for vjc sci
if not I'm deciding between TJC, SJI and ACJC.
I seem to like acjc culture more, but far
TJC is one of the most common schools ppl in my school choose to go, relatively convenient but I'm worried over their slipping performance and the boring culture?
SJI offers the IB which I'm very interested in, but it's a tad far ( nearer than AC) and it's an unconventional route, which I'm not sure if I'm prepared to take..
A level is colonial legacy
Well in sg...the norm is A'levels...many of my friends don't even know what is IB, so I don't count it as conventional...
so any advice?
My parents are away overseas till after JAE so i do need help
What i meant by exciting is the difference between ib and As, it is refreshing. -

Pls browse the thread on IB versus A Level
One principal put it succinctly this way : A level is more in depth for the chosen subject while IB is less in depth but wider scope or perspective.
Traditional unis like those in SG, oz and uk favors the A level. I think this is the colonial legacy system.
Continental Europe accepts IB very well, esp France
US unis rely on SAT & AP -

i would only do ib in acs(i) imo. ib in sji is relatively new while acs(i) has been doing ib for a lot longer. this shows in the results - acs(i) has been consistently dominating ib. however, from your score you might not get into acs(i) (cop 5). as for tjc vs acjc, i think you should choose the one nearer to home. you could try appealing to vjc/acs(i) as well. that's just my advice, ultimately the decision is yours to makeWhat about sci for me?

How much further is ACJC ? Take the mrt and tried traveling the distance ? Between ACJC and TJC, I would choose ACJC based on experience

For ACJC the care and support culture is very strong. When preparation of A level starts, there are parent volunteers who cook warm food for the students every evening and free! So that the students can concentrate and revise their work together or in school environment. The teachers are always available for consultation in person / via email. They also give very strong support in uni application process and counseling.

Just to share that SJI IB first batch results are similar to what ACS(I) first batch of results back in 2007, the average back then was also 39.4 though SJI had a higher percentage of 40 points and above of 57.9% vs ACS(I) first batch which was 54.9%

NJC or VJC ??
VJ HAHAAH. Bias aside, there really isn't much difference between the two academic wise. I would say pick the one closer to home. However if school culture is important to you, NJ has a more prevalent mugging culture than VJ. And if you're looking at arts fac, VJ definitely has a stronger arts programme than NJ.
How many students do u know personally in NJC to conclude that NJC has a mugging culture? -
Hi
Sincere thanks to all your encouragement and recommendations!
We are still debating which JC he should go. Worried that he may not keep up with the smarties in RI or HC. For some reason, hubby did not want to consider NJ or VJ.
May consider SJI IB, but not ACS. Still have a few more days to consider. -

How many students do u know personally in NJC to conclude that NJC has a mugging culture?
To be frank, I used to think that NJC has a mugging culture. After I got to know a few friends in NJC, as well as kids from NJC (JH), I realized that it is NOT true that NJC has a mugging culture! The students there I observed are fun-loving. I can see them practicing for their CCA or performance or sports during school holidays AND during term time. I think the misconception arises in part because NJC is a very low-profile JC. Very humble, down-to-earth, even the teachers and principals. They provide lots of opportunities to every student (not just a selected few), and they do not have a competitive culture. They strive to do their best in CCA, but they don't have to win (all the time). The learning journey is more important than the end results. They probably don't bother to clarify what other people think of them (as \"muggers\"), they know it (that they are not) themselves. I was not from NJC, that's why I am speaking up for them (knowing probably they will just laugh it off with such misconstrued comments).
So, next time, before commenting on any school's culture, it would be helpful to qualify if it is from your own personal experience, or based on your own conjecture. -
