      BeContented:
Lab coat - anyone knows if the boys need to use it until which year?

Thinking of passing to friend's sec1 son if the upper sec/senior years no longer require it.
      Hi BeContented,

If it helps, year 3 onwards I haven't seen my son using the lab coat. πŸ˜‰

          SoBlessed:
Thank you, breezy. Yours was more like 20 cents' worth.

Only ex-Express students find Language Arts from Year 3 onwards challenging? IP-from-Year-1 students find it a breeze?

And all the demanding requirements that you mentioned, are you saying that they apply from Year 3?
Haha! you are most welcome. Glad to be of help to fellow parents.

Not that students from IP since year 1 will find it a breeze, rather, they've been exposed to the \"technicality\" of language arts since yr 1, so they're more familiar with its \"fuzziness\". Not to worry, though the learning curve could be a little steeper, given time, boys from express going to IP @ yr 3 will pick up too. πŸ™‚

          1) In year 1 IP track, the boys are required to handle Projects (they call it coursework) for all subjects & IOP.

          2) Year 2 onwards, they have a taste of ISO & eTOK, on top of coursework for all subjects + IOC (individual oral commentary) instead of IOP.

          3) In year 3 IP, a new subject IHS (somewhat covering history, economics & sociology) is introduced, over & above coursework, ISO, eTOK & IOP.

          Hope this clarifies.

My apologies for all the acronyms.... Come yr 5, we have even more to digest πŸ˜‰

            Just a question to ask

For year 4 IP student taking normal Chinese, they will sit for the O level Chinese paper this coming June right ?

What’s the latest minimum MOE requirement for this paper to progress ? Is it the same for IB as well ?

I noticed that the school only asked the students to purchase book 4A for Chinese for year 4.

So presumably as long as the student get a C6 or better in June they can put Chinese aside and concentrate on the other subjects for the rest of the year ?

                Hi,

Sry I can only answer your question partially.
Yr 4 IP boys will take Chinese @ 'O' level in June.
As long as they score an A1 or A2, they'll be given a 7 points for their prelims results for Chinese.

I am not too sure if the sch dictates a compulsory retake for IP boys scoring less than a B4 but should they be satisfied with their grade and not to retake, Chinese lessons in the timetable will be free periods.

I was going through the curriculum of IB. Is it fair to say that unless the kid is very strong in language and able to express himself/herself well, to achieve very good results for IB Full Dip will be very tough? I saw EE, TOK and 2 main subjects relate to languages. Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks.

Any idea what's the cut off for A2 in O level Chinese ?
                      70 or 75 ?

So if they get at least an A2 they will get 7 points for Chinese in end of the year results ?

Oh dear. Hope your boy is OK.

Last year mine came back from Vietnam and needed 2 days of MC before he was able toreturn to school.
