What is L1R5?

jtoh:
The JC he's aiming for is not affiliated. 8 is after 2 CCA bonus cut of :-(. Tough!
5 subjects was a long time ago... when we were taking O levels.skyjuice:
I'm stunned to learn that L1R5 is a total of 6 subjects! I had thought it was 5-- which had already seemed like a tall order! So basically need 4 A1s and 2 A2s if targetting for a 8 pt score!! I truly wonder how some kids can get 8 or 9 A1s!! I would applaud even if can achieve 6A1s.
What about the Chinese language. Must the student pass with a minimum C6 in order to qualify for JC?
Education seems hellish is Singapore!
You can also get 8 points by scoring 12 points, then deducting 4 bonus points from HMT, CCA or affiliation.
Not sure if you need to pass Chinese to get into JC. You need just D7 to get into university. -
So what exactly is l1R5 ?
-
L1R5 stands for One language + 5 relevant subjects

From what I know, the L1 has to be your English unless you happen to take HMT. Think the R5 stands for relevant 5. So I think it should be your best 5 subjects outside of English. But i think must include 1 math, 1 science and 1 humanities.

Only a math/science AND one humanities is compulsory in R5.

My son takes triple science. Does it mean he can include all 3 sciences in the R5. Issit compulsory to include the combined humanities ?

Hi Ovencookies,
You can include all 3 sciences but you definitely need to include at least one Humanities subject in the L1R5. -
A better tomorrow:
So what exactly is l1R5 ?
L1 (either English or Higher Mother Tongue)
R5 - 5 Relevant Subjects
• Relevant Subject 1: from the best of Humanities
• Relevant Subject 2: from the best of Mathematics/Science
• Relevant Subject 3: from the next best of Humanities/Mathematics/Science
• Relevant Subject 4: the next best subject
• Relevant Subject 5: the next best subject
Note : HCL and CL cannot both be used in the same aggregate computation. -
