Seems that its very hard to succeed in appeals. The posted JC keeps the student in school the entire day the entire week during orientation (which incidentally ends on the day that all JCs suppose to stop all appeals) and some schools keep the students' phones probably so that the students cannot keep on 'bugging' their 'dream/ preferred JC for their appeals or even receive messages to go for auditions, etc. There seems also to be little movement this year (if the 'top' schools nobody move, those lower down the ranking have no vacancies to move to). Maybe this is another way in which the authority can propagate \"all schools are good schools\" and tell you that if you cannot make it to your preferred school then stay where you are!

I kind of disagree.
When i successfully appealed from ACJC into VJC, ACJC allowed students to leave school to submit appeal forms ( need to fill in an excuse slip though, but it is nothing much).
True, when I was at VJ orientation, they did keep our phones, but only incase durinf mass dance/games we drop it/ lose it, they returned us during breaks and meals though.
I appealed into VJ, 2 friends made it into CJ, two of my friends got calls to enter SRJC and someone from my VJC OG made it to raffles

I don't think any of the humans subjects I did in o levels were very much relevant to econs. I took pure lit, and elective geog/ss and had A1 for both, but my J1 year I scored S, and D for my econs at mid year and promos. Essay style is different, and likewise for concepts. (although globalisation in ss and a little bit of human geog eg. purchasing power may help a tiny tiny bit in your j2 year).

I think econs is hard to grasp the correct technique to answer qns but once you get that settled it is v easy to score. eg. I studied for like 5 days for my mid year and promo econs papers and got S/D but for my J2 prelim, I studied less than 5 hours the day before and got B because I knew the technique already and I was familiar with my concepts. But if you can't grasp the way to approach then it will really bad, and very hard to pass in school. Plus unlikely to score well at As.

from what I know, if students choose to take further math now, they do not need to choose a contrasting subject

There is no further math subject currently. Only H2 subject. H3 subjects are not counted towards university rank points. They are more for scholarship purpose or exemption of modules in university next time.


So yes you will still need a contrasting subject. Whether at H1 or H2 level is up to your school.

Hi,just to give this a closure,i entered NJC in the end.

To my surprise,the ip kids here are really sporting people and confident speakers,which,in a sense amuses me(nt in a rude way),'cause i was expecting to see geeks here but frankly speaking,there are none,not that i met of.Also,on contrary to popular beliefs that we are a mugger sch,our sch culture is quite vibrant and fun!! Hardly are there any schools that offers boarding programme like ours,definitely a brand new experience. No regrets joining
