for English composition P1 / P2 :
some primary schools in Bedok practise different standard.
for Example
Bedok Green primary :
started teaching Primary 1 pupils how to write English composition, based on 4 pictures (in sequence). Yes, this school started teaching 4 picture, from P1.
In contrast, St Anthony Cannosian primary :
up to P2 Term 2 (end of May, Mid-year) : still have not taught English composition, based on 4 pictures yet.
Quite a number of primary schools had already started writing Compo (4 pic).
Even if they did not start in P1, they ought to have already started, by P2 Term 2.
Parents from St Anthony Cannosian primary, may question the English HOD from Lower primary (who plan the English curriculum, from P1 to P3) : why is it so ?
As all parents know, from this year PSLE 2015 batch onwards, all P6 students will be sitting, for the new English PSLE format. Note that these new English requirements are a lot much tougher, than those in the past.
Based on the new Requirements, a lot of primary schools, when come to Primary 3 : pupils need to start how to write Compo, based on 3 un-related pictures.
Imagine this :
if by end of Primary 2, if a pupil still have not learnt nor been taught in school, how to write a Compo based on 4 pictures (in sequence), the transition into Primary 3 to write 3 un-related picture, is more uphill task, more challenging.
Why ?
Because writing 4 pic Compo in P2 (in sequence, one after another) is the foundation, or the basic, fundamental building block, leading towards writing 3 un-related picture Compo later on, come Primary 3.
Thus, different primary schools : set different kind of standard, for Composition. However, come P6 Psle, students from all schools sit for the same, common English Paper 1 (composition), regardless of which primary school your child attending.
dear Parents,
before you enrol your child into a primary school -
try to find out what is the standard like, particularly for composition(s) taught in both languages (English & Mother tongue)
Do not assume that all schools the same, because is not.
The standard varies, from school to school.
Every week, schools plan : within each week, how many lessons are being apportioned to English / Maths / Mother tongue ?
If P2 students are not taught writing 4 picture Compo, then what are these P2 students learning, throughout the whole week, during English lessons supposed to be designated for Compo writing ?
remember : as parents, we are concerned over what is being taught in schools, we have the right, to question the English HOD.
Similarly, the same apply to the Mother tongue HOD.
We parents do not want to end up in situation whereby :
because the schools did not teach what they are supposed to teach, end up we (parents) keep sending our kids to attend external tuition compo class for outside help - when to begin with, it should be the primary school Teachers themselves doing the teaching. Otherwise, why are they called Teachers, in the first place ?
(My friends' children in P2, this year :
so we tend to ask one another questions, find out what is the teaching pace is like or cover for (English & Chinese) Compo, in different schools.) -
Any feedback on Temasek Primary? Our turn for registration this year and DD is qualify for phase 2A(1) in Temasek.

CHIJ (Katong) Primary is having their 85th Anniversary Carnival this Sat 30 May 2015 from 9am to 4pm.
Come and join us for a day of fun games and yummy food!
Teachers, students and PV organise the event. Great team work!
A good chance to visit the school and see our students in action, esp. for parents with daughters going primary 1 next year. -
Hi All, noticed compared to past years, CHIJ Katong pri’s places available in 2014 is higher. Does anybody knows the reason(s)?

Not only CHIJ Katong but other popular schools too. There were more vacancies available for the respective phases. I guess it could be down to the 40 places reserved for 2B and 2C. -

:boogie: My friend's child in Damai Primary also. From what I know, they have two niche (Team Sports and Aesthetics) which shows that the school is into holistic education. She told me the school organises very effective Meeting with Parents workshop that is beneficial to the child's academic performance. I suggest parents to go into the website of the schools they wish to enrol their child in. I always believe the school website tells a lot about the school.FairyAngel83:
Find it strange that parents don't go for schools like damai and east coast even if they stay very nearby? Didn't hear much from parents whose children study there.. So really have no idea. Something wrong with the schools? O.o
my dd's friend in Damai pri. He love the school.
