Class result wise I will monitor but I can't compare with other kids because teacher will not reveal the individual's marks/position. My ds and I also not one who will ask others for marks. As long as he is maintaining his grade, I am happy.

no streaming...but she has to pass all her subjects to stay in the 'standard' subjects. -

The subject I am monitoring quietly at my end is higher chinese. -
I dread to think of daughter sitting for psle. this year, I see more homework. math worksheets on top of workbook…while I can slow down on math on my side, there is still English (comprehension, cloze, compo) and science which I cannot hold back. supplementary twice a week means she is only able to do school homework on those days.

Teacher will not reveal class position but you can find out if your child is categorized as average, above average, very high ability but careless or weak and need help type. Just ask the teacher and find out the child's weakness and improve. it’s the usual case of carelessness which causes marks to be thrown away…for eg missing comma, unit of measure and tenses.

I can add on other careless mistakes like capital letters when not needed or none when needed. DS keeps making these mistakes! So I told him for every such mistake, his play time gets cut by 5 minutes.

The section I dislike most is synthesis...one missing comma, alphabet whether in lower or upper caps, and wrong tense...the 2 marks are gone. I try not to stress her too much on this area...but it is a 10 marks section. I always remind her, the marks are meant to be given, be careful with work done, don't rush, and get the marks. PLEASE. -

What I'm going to do will be to add up the marks lost due to carelessness and show her what she would have got if she had been more careful. Plain nagging is not getting any result.
