Quote from the newspaper article: For providing false information to a public servant, the man faced up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

I wonder why such old news is being surfaced every couple of years. It is almost an open secret that parents resort to using "fake address" to register their kids for P1.

Such highly publicised cases are intended to deter parents from taking the risk but looking at the extremely LOW probably of being detected, I believe it instead emboldens some parents to take the risk.

Perhaps, MOE should enhance it’s detection mechanism.

Reading the comments in the ST facebook... many people still feel that the jail term is too harsh for the man... Which I totally do not think so!

Anyway... I know of a school that actually let a student stay even though the parents used their rented out apartment to secure a seat for the kid in that school. So unfair! Not allowed means not allowed whatever the reason! This unfairness has deprived another student who is more well-deserved for going the legitimate way a place in the school!

              Indeed.

The nature of the offence is hard to detect and even a maximum fine would not be sufficient for deterrence, said District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan.

Very simple, just enhance the framework for whisper blowing.

Ah! Didn't read that far down. Thanks.

Well, the explains why there's a jail term.

A jail term if imposed may help to prevent others from cheating. At least potential cheaters will be afraid of MOE doing spot checks. Living on the edge of fear is no joke…做亏心事,半夜敲门是很怕的.
