Tetsujin:
Thanks for asking the PrincipalAccording to the school, this IP batch did very well though one of the top HCI students was from the O level stream.
My son went thru 4 years in HCI and am in JC now, let me share something with parents, the IP programme is actually much more rigourous than the O level programme!
They are tested very frequently, so they are always preparing for the next test!
But they also play very hard, the school make sure they also have fun during sabbaticals, do the things they like, give themselves a break and just have plain fun!
And one thing they have over the O level programme, Project Work. They have already done lots of projects in year 1-4, so Project work is a breeze for them in JC!verykiasu2010:
Go ask the principal

vlim:
don't think they officially call them as\"Bicep\" in primary school....but the school tracks the students on this area
yap... a few of the primary schools, such as Tao Nan and Nyps are offering it (bicep) to some of the students from p4xxjustakidxx:
What is Bicep?
Bicultural elective programme?
There's something like it, but I heard you have to opt for it when you go for Sec 3 CSE banding.
and yes,in HCI it starts at Sec 3 for selected / qualifying students only ...again the school tracks them -
It is called BSP, Bicultural Studies Programme.
This programme started in 2005 with Chinese High (Hwa Chong), Nanyang Girls High School and Dunman High School being the pioneer schools offering this programme.
MOE offers a scholarship for this programme that starts in Sec 3 and ends in J2.
The students spends alotof time in China and the US & UK to understand the cultures fo these countries.
Cheers!verykiasu2010:

Just some queries. As the girls from NYGH only join HCI in yr 5; how are they "group" together with the boys (do both schools share some tests or exams so there’s common standards)? Any ex NYGH girls want to comment on the adjustment to the new environment ?? Or are they already very familiar with school and boys 'cos they always have friendly matches and programmes together ? do they have to do any projects together in their junior years ?

their campuses are separated by the Bukit Timah & Dunearn Roads ...... though they do meet at the bus stops as they share the same bus stops but probably only when they get to J1 (year 5) then they will say to each other, \"hey, thought u look familiar!\" or ...\"hey,have been eyeing u !\"..... lolz
seriously I suggest u email the NYGH principal and she will tell u, or attend their open house to ask ... and let us know -
Both schools run their own IP Programmes, though the students do come together in some activities and subjects.
They come together in year 5, which is the JC programme. There are no special ways of grouping them together.
They are grouped according to their subject combinations, and that includes students who join them from the O llevel programme.
The JC programme is a totally different and new programme, so all the students have to adjust.
But one of the keys difference between the IP students and the O level students is their experience in project work, which the IP students started doing in Sec 1 of the IP Programme.verykiasu2010:

Hi, I wonder if anyone out there has any experience with the type of Econs teaching Hwa Chong JC has for their students?

thanks Verykiasu2010 & Tetsujin, will try to "spot" the principal or just ask any teacher at the NYGH open house.

Dear All,
My DS is in Sec 4 this year, a transition year, a crucial year!
Can some of you shed some light on important events, programs or decision makings so that we can take note in advance? Nowadays, children will honor their ownership of decision making, by the time we know he has missed something, it is already too late…
Another thing, how is Chinese education in HCJC? We attended a talk last Saturday hosted by Zhao Bao, SPH on Chinese exam in O level, eventually found that exam paper for IP students is different from the one for mainstream O level students. If a child is doing well in the year end exam, does he need to continue studying Chinese in HCJC? How well must it be?
Please, share me with your information. Thank you in advance! -
HCI students take the O Levels Higher Chinese Paper in the end of the year.
If he scores a B or better for his O Level Higher Chinese Paper, he will be exempted from taken Chinese Language in JC.greentrees:
