All About Full-Time Maids

\"Most employers will just end up hands in the air and live with imperfections unless the actions become too much (like taking employer's money to finance their hp habits...i have heard of at least 3 different employers who experienced just that).[/quote]
My ex-maid did just that - she went straight for my kids' piggy bank and helped herself. She was so addicted that she had to reload on weekly basis or even earlier. Once she left my kid alone at home (after I left for work and after being specifically instructed to look after my kid as there is no one else at home that time) just to top up her card!!
So relieved after sending her home, then made a police report and then feedback to MOM thereafter. Couldn't do that while she was still living with us. Just closed many eyes for fear that she might took it out on my young kids if I did that and told her off. So so stressed up!!
The positive side of this - never knew that I can really tahan so much s**t.... LOL -
Hi anyone of you left maid alone at home while parents went to work & children went to school. I have 4 helpers so far & had been running this kind of system for 1.5 years. All maids can’t last. Is either they r found being lazy (most of the time close 1 eye) or go out themselves or calling their friends. Does it mean this kind of system can’t work? I need helper for household chores, prepare dinner & on weekends as I have 2 small kids (1 bb & 1 toddler). Very fed up with keep changing maids.

when one employs a maid, the employer has to remember maid is also a human being…and that means the maid’s moods, attitude and well-being has to be taken into account.
having a maid who talks back can be hard to tolerate. my aunt’s neighbour complained to her about the new Filipino maid. the maid loves to use hot water to wash the dishes. the employer told the maid not to use the hot water to wash as the rest of the family needs to bathe. the maid shot back, ‘why can’t I use the hot water?’
try talking back to your boss in the office and see what happens. -
Just heard from a friend that her Indon maid’s friend, who went home for 2 weeks’ holiday, was not allowed to board the plane for flight to Singapore by the Indon authorities today.

What reason was given? she has an employer and is not a fresh maid, perhaps she look too young. On the other hand, I read that they will enforce the law by 2017 or at anytime without notice to stop their ladies frm going overseas s FDW. I think its impossible to stop the girls completely frm coming out as domestic workers, there r just too many of them unless Indonesia hold back the passports of all those applying as maids..... So I guess eventually all those that are already in spore can remain as maids but once back home, hard to come out.
Well looks like the new president is acting real fast, anyway its all for the good of their country. -

If being a domestic help overseas is bad, I think being a domestic help in their own countries also not much better. Hearsay that money is less, and the employers may not treat them any much better.
Frankly, unless the new president create jobs for them, I can't see how to stop the tide. If they can be gainfully employed in Indo, no one will wan to go overseas to work as domestic help. Then SGeans really have to figure out how to make do without the help. -

The source of the info on Sg side was the maid's friend. She rang her panicking cos she was not allowed to board. She showed them her contract.
No reason was given.
Their new govt is too full of pride. It is stupid and ridiculous to stop your people from going overseas to work when you are unable to create enough jobs for them. If you are able to create enough jobs and the people can earn enough for their needs (and some savings for investment), they won't need to leave their families to work overseas. You won't even need to ban them from going, they will have no incentive to go. -
I read some ST news that Indo see maids as unskilled workers and they no longer want to send unskilled workers abroad. In the near future, they want to train and send the women as skilled workers like ‘child minders’ and ‘care givers’…
Do we need ‘child minders’ and ‘care givers’ that English, Mandarin, Tamil or Malay is not their first language or mother tongue?
So… while she ‘minds our children’ or ‘care for elders’…we do the laundry, wash the toilets, scrub the floor and cook for her to eat?
Or pay them twice the salary + levy + own room and then live in fear that they make up story in fb if they are not happy?
Housekeeping is a skill…I truly believe that. What has all these maid training centres been doing?
We need a maid/housekeeper… that need be can help mind the children and care for the elderly. -
Their remittances home fuel domestic consumption and keep the local economy afloat. And we have not seen any initiatives towards the goal of not sending their people abroad. Even if there are initiatives, their viability remains to be seen.
Anyways, his assumption is the workers are unhappy. But I suspect some of them prefers to be here. -

I'm sure they're not masochists.
One problem is the NGOs who go around painting exaggerated picture of how the maids are ill treated by their employers, making such ill treatment seem the norm instead of exceptions.
In today's news, one such organisation claims that, according to their survey 73 % of maids were restricted from communicating with family and friends. I find that impossible to believe. Most maids have mobile phones nowadays (with exception of perhaps some new ones).
So I guess the authorities can't help but assume they are being ill treated.
