Really can't wait for them to be in morn session since they got more time at home than now which is rather \"scattered\".

Hi, long time no \"see\". Not many P2 mothers in this forum...How's your ds coping with Mrs Teo? πŸ˜‰ Is he in the Science Expressions Speech and Drama on Tuesdays too?

I agree, can't wait for am session. May have the initial teething problems of waking up early and not having enough sleep though. I guess they will have to learn to cope over time. Afterall, there are more levels in am session compared to pm session.

            E3:

Piano practice is a routine since she started learning it. She has her ups and downs though. She gets rusty if she skips a day or two for whatever reasons. She is currently on grade 4+ songs and grade 5 exam songs so if she does not practise, she takes a while to pick up which can be quite frustrating for her. So in order to keep up, she has to play the piano almost everyday. Actually, she enjoys playing the piano as it is a respite for her amidst her mundane schoolwork. When she plays her favourite songs, it takes away her stress. Her piano teacher being a Christian, taught her favourite Sunday School songs too. That's why, I'll try and keep the practise time in her schedule, no matter what. πŸ˜„
This is what exactly we hope music will bring her, but when we realise that she does not enjoy it, we decided to stop it. All is not lost. She can always start again, at her own leisure pace. Btw, your girl is really fast. Grade 4/5 at p2...wow impressive. Mine just done with her grade 3. If she continue, she should be doing grade 4 around now, oh well. πŸ˜‰

Quick sharing...I give credit to her current piano teacher. After switching to her, my dd suddenly progresses very quickly. Like your girl, grade 3 was a big jump from grade 2. She was on a plateau for a while, thus we decided to switch to a more motivating teacher as her interest was starting to wane. That's y I said she has her ups and downs. Well... that's life, I guess. πŸ˜‰ Also, we don't want to focus only on exam songs but also other songs which can make learning the piano more meaningful and appealing to her.

Hi E3, dunno what I've been busy about lately esp after i went for eye op (epi-lasik) πŸ˜›

Mrs Teo is still the same ... asked her during the meeting about DS, she's still focused on the emotional aspect like \"he can be grouchy some times / he sure knows a lot of fishes! / he can draw really well\" or if about another kid \"oh, he's such a quiet boy\". Can forget about any academics feedback. At least I know this teacher is always concerned about the child's well-being as priority. Only mentioned that she's disappointed DS didn't score for his maths as he got 100 last year in P1.

Yes, also in the Tues class, yours too? Seems like they have a \"play\" coming up, they're choosing roles to act. My DS smartly chose the one with only 1-2 sentence of speech :rotflmao: which class is your kid in?

The classes will get bigger in P3 onwards right? Really envy St Nic ... only about 30 kids in all levels. Teachers can teach the kids better in smaller groups.

I think I'll have to start \"training\" DH to prep DS for morning session so this lazy pig can sleep in  i'm so not a morning person. He will have to drive the kid to school since it's on the way.

Wondering, can we drive in and pick up kid after school for the am session like we're doing now in pm?

Does any parent here experience frustration at the heavy peak hour traffic in trying to exit Pei Hwa Ave onto main road especially since many motorists don't observe the yellow box rules? Do you think we can write in to LTA to request a traffic light that operates during the school's peak hour (drop off and pick up timing, probably 30 minutes at each stretch). I notice many schools have this system or a traffic control warden to improve the traffic flow plus this seems a lot safer and prevents accidents.

                    Hi E3, Janet, IJJ,

Thanks for your tips on study strategies.

E3, yup, I will take yr advice to 1st sit down with 2 of them to agree on a schedule and attainable goals. I salute you for your consistency. I did try to set up a routine for them in the beginning of the year, but they were not able to adhere to it, so we have fallen back on alot of assessment work. I will put up the schedule on a memo board so they can see how they fair against the planned schedule, hopefully they would be more motivated that way, since if they see that they are lagging behind, that wil mean no rewards. I will keep you posted on how the fixed schedule and goal setting goes.

BTW, my P1 girl’s grammer and sentence making is horrible despite of the coaching I’ve given her last year. Any good assessment books or tools to recommend?

Janet, I have not started on having her start practicing on SA1 test papers. I better start as exam is only 1 month away. She has ballet exams coming up and lessons are held 2 to 3 times a week so it eats up her revision time. So, hopefully after her ballet exams, she’ll have some breathing space.

                      Periwinkle,

My headache will begin next year when daughter goes to P1.
I was recommended this assessment book 'Challenging English 4-in-1 by M. Rani. I get this book every year for my son.

As for past year exam papers, it’s rather early to start now. I usually print 2-3 copies for my son to practice after he has finished revising what will be tested.

Was he the one who scored 100 for SA1 Math last year as well? Mrs Teo was my dd's math teacher last year too. She scored full marks for SA2. This year, cos of a question error in MCQ (Q 17), she lost 2 marks cos after making changes to the question, she did not change her answer to reflect the correct option.

The one she had chosen and memorised earlier was assigned to the \"loud\" ones. She is quite soft-spoken. She is in Group 1 taught by Mr Renee and Miss Sahara.

Hers was a single trip cos no vacancy for return trip then. My DH couldn't stand the jam and he couldn't leave his office so early everyday so end up picking her up later. Thus, by hook or by crook, we got her in for the return trip after the Jun Hols. πŸ˜›

You think writing in to the school first or request the school to write in to LTA would be better? Just my opinion.
