It's not a must but it will be very useful for them. They may have some free hours between lectures and they can use the laptops to work on their essays or presentations in the uni. Uni essays also require them to do research in the library. It's not possible for them to lug many library books home and some reference books can't be borrowed anyway, so having a laptop for them to work on will make things easier for them.

I can't imagine not having a laptop at all, or at least some sort of access to a computer, although this might have to do with my subject (law). A lot of resources are now online, some of which are much harder to find offline or require you to go to a particular library (eg a specific journal article or case).

Personally, I prefer typing my notes - it's a lot faster than writing by hand, less painful, and easier to find things as well as make amendments. I also type all of my essays, unless my tutors specifically ask for it to be handwritten. Handwriting is definitely possible, but when you're looking at 2000-3000 words 3 times every 2 weeks, that's an awful lot of time to waste on writing.

Some assignments also require online submission plus some lectures are pre recorded that requires computer or laptop to access

MY DD is sailing smoothly... Arts streme, so efforts/ Hard work won't improve grades as much. Stay focussed & confident is key to do well, if Papers are bit trickey

How important is CCA in JC?

I have heard of some students taking 2 CCAs, wouldn’t it be too time-consuming?

IMO its not as important as grades. Great CCA achievements with terrible A-level grades doesnt help you at all. So if your grades are good and you are scoring in the area of the top 15% of your cohort, you can invest more time in CCA achievements in order to attain scholarships at the end of your A-levels. But if your grades are borderline, dont bother about CCA and get your grades up first.

CCA will not help you at all if you have Cicadas, Donkeys and Elephants on your cert.

If you are aiming scholarship, US unis, med/law other courses that will assess your portfolio it is impt. For other courses not so much. I took 2 CCAs in JC - one was high commitment (sport) the other was low, only once a week because it's a club. I would recommend that if one is unable to attain a leadership position in a sport CCA (since these usually go to the better players), try joining a club to get a leadership position + DO something/change something and improve the CCA so that you will have something to talk about for leadership which is much better than having an empty title where you did nothing as a leader.
