      Hi all,


      How would you explain to you child the following math question?

      weighting scale shows that 1 potato = 2 carrots

      so 2 potato = ? carrots

          Then 2 potatos = 4 carrots. 1 potato is about the weight of 2 carrots.

              Maybe draw some picture as illustration would help.

                Draw an illustrationof a weighing scale, then 2 separate diagrams of (1 Potato = 2carrots) then you show what happens when you add them together. Itโ€™s ok if they donโ€™t immediately at first. Must show them different examples based on thesame concept, after a few daysof repeated exosure theirbrainwill get it after digesting on the similar examples.

                This is the Practice of using examples to teach concept (via inductive reasoning for the child).

                  Use cloth-pegs or tea-spoons etc to explain the concept? Kids see and understand things easier than merely numbers.

                  For eg: put 2 paper clips on a cloth-peg. If you have 2 such pegs, you will have 4 paper clips ie 4 potatos?
