Do you think you may be trying to do too much within 2 weeks? I am in Osaka now. Been here 8 days, and only covered the South West, namely Hiroshima (Miyajima), Okayama, Himeiji, Kyoto and Osaka.dimitri_can:
not really true. depends on which part of Japan and the period you are going (e.g early Dec, mid Dec or late Dec)
Dec is peak season for Japan... if you need any additional help with the planning after you have come up with the rough itinerary, feel free to drop me an pm

Hi, I intend to plan a 12-14 days Hokkaido (Sapporro-Otaru-Lake Toya-Niseko with 4 days 3 nites skiiing) / Tokyo (Disneyland for kids) / Osaka & Kyoto (1st time so no idea yet) trip in Dec, what will be the easier route to move around and any suggestion on a itinerary that can reference? Nothing was booked yet (Air ticket / accomodation), still searching information to determine best deal tickets and accomodation considering travel with 2 kids age 11 and 8.
Thanks -

Too adventurous...... I went 26 times and only managed to cover 12 prefectures. You might just want to stick to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe area instead... If you are ok, i'll provide u with a rough itinerary.dimitri_can:

My family being to Hokkaido last year June so we only intend to revisit or spend 2 days in Sapporro, along the way to Niseko - revisit Otaru or Lake Toya. Niseko skiing will be 1st time. This will probably make up 6-7 days… since we will be heading back to Tokyo (being to Tokyo for afew times so no intention to explore except 1 day trip to Disneyland for kids), we would like to try Osaka/Kyoto which is new to us…we reckon it will take us another 4-5 days… can extend the length of stay if needed.
If you dont mind pls send me the rough itinerary for Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto and wonder if you have recommendation on Niseko ski itinerary too. Thanks much for your information. -

Main objective is Niseko skiing and to \"have a feel in Kyoto/Osaka\"..probably cant cover most places in Kyoto/Osaka and we are not adventurous to do so within a few days ... but afew key destinations should be good for us

Why not consider skiing in Nagano instead? It has powder snow too and was the winter Olympic site. Best of all, just a Shinkansen ride from Tokyo. Easier to fit in then Hokkaido if you want to go Kyoto, Osaka etc. -

I'm planning an overnite trip to Nagano. Not skiing, just wanting the kids to have some snow play. Any recommendation of affordable ryokans/onsens in Nagano? Or Nikko?
Thanks. -

Maybe you can try Nagano. There is a snow monkey park to visit. The walk to this park is pleasant. -
