[Jurong West] Primary Schools
-
Hi chixchix,
Good that you have looked through all the past year stats as you've made it easier for us to comment.
To summarise, for Phase 2C,
Nan Hua : Balloting required for <1km : You at 1.337km away stand no chance
Clementi : Balloting required for 1-2km : At 903.m away, you will not be subjected to balloting, but you need to check whether you can use your clementi address as you have put that out for rental. Will your tenant be using that address for P1 registration too? Does MOE permit it (or is it a loophole)? do note that by right, you have to be physically residing in the address reflected in your IC. although some applicants may use this strategy, they are actually depriving those who actually live 1-2km from the school a place in the school.
West Grove : Balloting req for <1 km : You at 697.72m away will join the balloting crowd.
Xingnan Primary : Balloting for 1-2 km : You at 1406.72m away will join the balloting crowd.
Fairfield Methodist : Balloting req for <1 km :You at 480m away will join in the balloting crowd
1. Are you willing to join in the balloting crowd? If yes, you have to consider;
a) is your kid going to be under the care of your mum? if yes, can go for Fairfield.
do note that by right, you have to be physically residing in the address reflected in your IC. your mum's address should by right be used under the 'Caregiver' category, and by right in such instance you should join the 1-2km category.
although some applicants did use this strategy, they are actually depriving those who actually live <1km from the school a place in the school.
b) since all of the above needs balloting, is there any one that you'll particularly prefer as in the CCAs offered, their academic performance etc?
You can look at the TUR in the stats table to have a rough gauge of how oversubscribe each school is. However, do note that that is not reflective of how many applicants in each of the distance category is vying for the place in the school.
You may also need to find out from the school whether they will be changing the intake of P1 students
2. If you are not keen in joining balloting, choose another less popular school. -
Thanks Jedamum  ok ...i understand that we have to apply for 1 school at a time..what happens if I go for West Grove ,and find that I am not successful in the balloting ? Then what happens ?
Also, comparing :
Xing Nan
West Grove
Pioneer Primary
which is the best of this 3 ?? Thanks all! -
chixchix,
If you are unsuccessful in Phase 2C, there is still Phase 2C Supplementary. Do note that some schools that may have vacancies under Phase 2C may need balloting under Phase 2C Supplementary if the no. of applicants exceeds the vacancies in Phase 2C Supp (ie that school became the next best choice for most parents that are unsuccessful in Phase 2C).
I couldn’t compare best. But based on popularity it is WG, XN and then PP.
Either you look at their achievement listed in their website, or best is to get feedback from parent with kids studying there (you may want to go down to the school before dismissal, or early in the morning to seek feedback from parents). If not, just go by the distance factor if the difference is not great.
JMHO. -

chixchix, jedamum is right. You have to decide if you want to take a chance and ballot or if you just want a peaceful registration exercise....Also, comparing :
Xing Nan
West Grove
Pioneer Primary
...
Anyway, since Pioneer Primary is already one of your considerations, I would say that you should try for West Grove in Phase 2C (about 1 in 3 chance), failing which you can always register at Pioneer subsequently. No real loss to you. -
yeah I think I will do just that. Anyways, how do I know if west grove will conduct Phase 2C supplementary ?

chixchix,
ChiefKS meant registering at West Grove in Phase 2C and then Pioneer Pri in Phase 2C Supplementary if you are unsuccessful in West Grove.
Schools that needs balloting (ie demand exceeds vacancies) in Phase 2C will have no more seats left to carry out Phase 2C supplementary.
As to whether which schools have vacancies left under Phase 2C supplementary, you can check out MOE's website or Teletext when the Phase 2C registration ends/prior to the Phase 2C supplementary registration. -

I am currently doing parent volunteering for West Grove. There are also many other parents doing so. Don't want to leave things to chances. -
Dear all
i'm new to this forum.
My son is due for P1 registration in July 09 and i've not done any PV.
Can i know Xingnan Primary & Juying Primary, which is better? I'm staying at Jurong West, within 1km will be Jurong West & West grove which require balloting. I plan to go for JWPS which is the nearest (convenient for my children caregiver), if not successful, then either XNPS or JYPS... but i hope to find out more about both schools.
can i just call the school to arrange for a visit?
tarmind, how did u manage to talk to the principal? I try calling West Grove, the staff on the phone doesn't sound helpful... \"she keeps saying her school is very popular and no point for me to visit the school....\" i'm quite disappointed with her unfriendly reply as i wudn't want my kids to grow up in that kind of environment if all the staff there behave like that.
Is Juying a school of choice? I read that quite a number of you considering XNPS. -

If that actually happened to me, I will erase that school from my list of choices just for that comment alone, regardless of how strong the school is perceived to be. Education should be based on mutual respect and humility. -
Hi chiefkiasu,
precisely, we decided not to consider that school coz we wudn't want our children to grow up in that kind of environment.
Really need advice on Xingnan and Juying Primary schools as we really know nothing on both schools except from what we read from the website. :?:
Quite impressed to read that xingnan actually produces 280 high PSLE scorer in 2007!!
if we manage to get into JWPS then no worries.....
sigh! if only we plan earlier, if only we sign up for PV.... a friend actually commented that why should i leave the decision to god (balloting) and not do something years ahead... gosh, made me so GUILTY!!
