Bone Scans

Anyone knows of cases where a full body bone scan showing widespread metastases turn out to be false alarm. While I know that raised tumour marker leveles need not mean cancer, but what about bone scans…Are mistakes possible with such scans?

have edited the title of my topic. I was refering to whether its possible for bone scans to be wrong...can osteoporosis or other bone diseases be mistaken for bone cancer.

To my experience while taking care my mother in law years ago, bone scan for cancer is the final examination for how much of cancer metastases had spread. BUT the scan had to use a kind nuclear substance and in my country, only qualified army doctor and army hospital could do this kind of scanning. I do not very sure about it in Singapore :?have edited the title of my topic. It's different with MRI as she'd gone through MRI as well. Hope this help

She'd done a bone scan after doc injected some tracer chemical (not sure if this is the radioactive substance), next up is ct scan and bone biopsy, if needed.
