from the feedback I get from my son…the progress of teaching is slow. Some teachers spent much time disciplining the students and as a result no time to teach class proper. There is even this Chinese teacher that wastes precious lesson time demoralising the students. Topics are not adequately covered especially languages. As I have no idea of the lesson plan for the students, I cannot comment more…but if they are really lagging behind, then there is cause for concern.

DS just got back his Math Base Test paper yesterday, he told me there the lowest in his class is 0. When I looked at the Math paper, the questions are rather straight forward and easy compared to the papers from other schools.

I don’t think DS has any clues on Geography and Literature as these 2 are completely new subjects. Anyone knows how to get hold of MSHS past years exam papers?

With SA nearing, I am trying to get DS to try out past year papers from other schools. However, it seems that many topics are not covered yet.

For Science, some schools divide the papers into Physics, Chemistry or Biology.
When I asked DS what have they learnt for Science, is it Physics or Chemistry, he said, its just LSS - Lower Secondary Science! Faint~~~
Hi Sexyviper.. don't faint. My DS said the same when I asked him about science! I also understand that the same teacher teaches both Physics & Chemistry. Not sure how it works in other school but for my DD's school, Physics, Chem & Biology are taught by different science teacher. DD finds the science notes provided by DS teacher inadequate though

            Hi, i am new here.

Does anyone here feels that the school is leaving too much to the student?
I beleive student perform better with good organizational leadership & capability. Even if we don’t cook the fish for them, we should at least teach them how to catch them.

DS said that somebody in his class found a pile of shit wrapped with tissue inside his school bag today. I feel sorry for the boy. I don’t think it’s just a prank because whoever did this must have planned it for some time.

FT has reported the issue to the discipline master. Hopefully, they find the culprit.

Is it sec 1 or sec 2?
This is a form of bullying.
I hope they do something about it and not keep quiet.

Sec 1.[/quote]It sounds really bad for that boy especially it is only 4 months into a new school & environment.
It wasn't like this bad when I did the orientation & we interacted with the student councillors. Sigh..
I believe the teachers are leaving too much to the student to deal with it. At least, they should have a settling down period.
I remember reading an email on bullying in the MPC. It seemed like a warning to student but no one cares about it.
You can check out the maris stella confession face on fB. I hope all the Sec 1 student are given a chance to settle down as their sole priority is to study not being ahve to cope with bullying or have to respect senior & all those crab... Sigh

                      Today is the Sports’ Day.

I hope every Sec 1 student find their way there (Hougang Stadiun) because some of my friend DS didn’t manage to do that for the cross country (MacRitachie).
I hope your son have a fun day! TGIF to all.

Disturbing to hear such incident. Bullying seems to be rampant across schools. My son gets picked on by classmates hurling vulgarities at him for no rhyme or reason. While I understand boys are rowdy but I wonder what is the school approach?
