Japan has earthquake almost everyday.

Nothing unusual.

Actually for those who frequent Japan often,

1)can kindly share which areas are the frequent
quake zones (if you know of) so we can try to avoid as much as possible esp for families bringing kids

2) If you have experienced it, what should u do ?

I don't go to Japan that often babe - and there are others on this thread who will be better qualified to answer. But check out this page: http://www.japanquakemap.com. There was an earth quark just a few hours back in the Izu Islands which administratively belongs to Tokyo.

The whole country is in the volcanic zone known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, the country sits pretty much on the fault line of three tectonic platens, Asia Plate, Phillipines plate and pacific plate. That's also why the country has so many beautiful mountains....

I still love my Singapore

But what to do, I also like to travel around and look look see see everywhere :imcool:

We’ve a trip to Osaka/ Kyoto coming up in few weeks time but we obviously have not planned anything except book the hotels. It’s our first trip to Osaka/ Kyoto and without kids.

We will be flying to Osaka. Intend to travel from Osaka to Kyoto and stay for 2 nights before moving on to Osaka for another 3 nights.

Have the following questions :
* What is the best way to commute between Osaka to Kyoto?
* What are the must see in Kyoto based on 3D2N?
* What are the must see in Osaka based on 4D3N?

Hi MMM,

My trip was about 2 Decembers ago and with kids (so some things may not appeal). One thing that stood out for me was Endo Sushi. If you are a fan, make time to visit the central market. Endo is a hole in the wall next to the market (from train station onwards, EVERYONE knew where Endo sushi was so it was easy asking for directions). They are famous for nice and relatively inexpensive sushi.

I went to the central market one. Adjoining it was a fruits market and we went a bit gaga buying fruits (they will pack it such that it's air ready) there. It was first time to a Jap fish market for me. We reached about 7 am which was relatively late but works well that there was hardly any crowd then.

Also visited the usual places - the aquarium (we chose osaka specifically to see the whale sharks), castle (i didn't climb up, just see from afar), and that shopping street. if you are not averse to deep fried food, Daruma is a popular option (we sadly discovered this on our last day) - they serve kushikatsu (local snack of deep-fried skewers). Daruma's icon is an angry uncle holding 2 skewers.

we went to Universal studios and despite the cold, it was fun. Heard that Harry Potter world has opened since then, so will be looking forward to go there again in future. I think it's more fun to wait in the cold cos at least I am not perspiring.

FYI, we went to Kyoto by train from osaka main station. Kyoto was a day trip for us becos we had kids and we didn't fancy changing bases. it really is quite near. And we bought a daypass so we can hop on/off buses to the various sights. It's not very hard to get around on public transport becos it's such a visited place.

We actually also made other side trips like to Nara. sorry can't recall the rest. hope you have fun!

The funny observation I had was when people talk about Osaka, it seems to be more on food rather than places to go. My colleague (who is a japanese) ended up telling me all the food that we MUST not missed in Osaka…eg. okonomiyaki, takoyaki, Kushiage???

Wonder if anyone visited the premium outlets in osaka and if is worth the effort (in terms of pricing).
