While the distance is a consideration for some, being overly obsessed with the 5 or 10 mins difference in traveling time miss the big picture. For the affected parents, it's the loss of govt credibility and uncertainties about the new JC.

For a concerned taxpayer and citizen, it is about the accountability and the competency of the govt. It is quite amazing that a relatively simple matter of preparing an interim site and physically building a new JC on the designated permanent site has now lead to so much unhappiness and the matter is still pending a satisfactory resolution and explanation.

What does it accomplish by being overly obsessive in trying to assign the blame? Instead of focusing on that, why not just take it in your stride? Ya, it's so amazing how just a building has caused this unhappiness like it is a birth right.

      Unbelievable!

It is not a birth right but neither should we take it lying down. Singapore is known for a competent and working government. Yet, this very simple episode shows up lapses in intra-government coordination, poor project management and supervision, and poor engagement as well as communications with the ground.

Am I right to assume that most of the unhappy parents are from the boys’ school since it’s always about bishan? St nicks is in amk and nobody said anything about going from there. Those from scgs have also not said anything.

I am affected as a tax payer having to fork out more to build a school more costly than it could be built else where.

Also affected as a potential parent-in-law to those kids. Never says never. Who knows !

As an affected parent and taxpayer, I share your valid concerns although I am perplexed that pirates pay taxes? The tax monies are stored in Davy Jones' locker?

So who in MOE should come forth to admit his honest mistake? As a result of this mistake, taxpayers are saddled with the costs of extensive refurbishment of Mt Sinai site for an interim use of 2 years.

The mt Sinai site isn't being used for just two years. It is being used for multi years. It has always been a holding site for any school undergoing PRIME. The cost incurred is well used by other schools. Someone already listed those branded schools have used that place in the last 20? Years

As much as you wish to believe or think that SG is known for competence and efficiency etc etc etc - we are NOT! We have slipped. Others have caught up. Being #1 was in some areas in history but no amount of self agrandization will change the fact - we have slipped. For example it takes 4 months to get a telephone line working in SG.

Sounds like it. Even the Straits times reported two concerned fathers with SONS questioned the minister at the Bishan community event. St nicks probably don't care since the school fees still reasonable. scgs parents although lugi the most as the fees paid are ten times more than other two schools but travel time got some advantage maybe as scgs is nearer ghim moh.

mrt ride fr bishan 17 mins. walk fr buona vista to sch 10 mins.
about half hour. but like jetsetter say earlier, not really fair to use bishan as the reference point cos not everyone stays in bishan.

Google map gives 14 mins so it is between 10-20 mins using an average pace of walking I suppose. 10 mins could be a very athletic person and 20 mins could be one with a heavy bag or a very late night of finishing up the homework after all the CCAs.

Ok, coming from someone who walked there for 2 years, it doesn't take that long lah. We didn't follow the google route i.e. along the road. We take shortcuts and u don't need to make such a detour from the other side of the MRT. It's about 10 mins walk if I remember correctly. What I did last time was after reaching MRT, I will go to Ghim Moh market for breakfast before heading to school. When I am late, I just take the shuttle bus.

Before making comments on how it actually is, I suggest that you go take the train and walk there. It is a lot faster now with circle line.[/quote]Bishan or Ghim Moh are well within my territories of knowledge in practical terms, i.e. not on paper. However, I do not measure everyone with my yardstick of walking because I am not the standard. I prefer to use the Google map one which is more applicable to all and it is a yardstick that is acceptable to all, including quoting it for any official documents. This Google map exercise was very recently done by one of my kids whom I learn from so it is an acceptable practice to quote from Google map. I am sharing it here so that if they want to make their case, they can use this.

Having said this, the 4 mins difference is NOT the key point of discussion. Appreciate the challenges they are facing.

These are not factual, only speculations right? However, what is factual is the JC was designated to be in Bishan and the interim JC location also in Bishan. So they have to take a reference point for the difference in distance, which is Bishan to Ghim Moh to put up their case... Do you expect them to be unreasonable to take distance from all the individual homes? :faint:
