Based on past years history, no balloting was required for Phrase 2A & 2B for both schools. Yes, though its every parents dream to enrol into the SAP school but PHPPS really at a disadvantage as till now it has yet to move into the single session. I'm in a dilemma. -

1) single session...saves a lot of time on the road to and fro.
2) higher Chinese is not easy...not implying your child cannot cope.
3) environment is also very strict (my son was formerly from pei hwa). -

Yes I truly agree on the flexibility of single session whereby kids will have more time after school, care to share how did your son fare in PHPPS? Seriously I’m not too sure about my girl’s stress level at K2 since there is more play than work but overall I think she is able to cope with the spelling and homework so far. I believe most school pushes kids these days so I feel stress is everywhere. Do you happen to know anything about KPS? I wonder if it will be a pity if I will to choose KPS over PHPPS since its a SAP school which every parents would have made it their #1 choice. -

my son didn't do very well in primary school. he is just average...there is a certain kind of stress staying afloat in pei hwa. as he is my first child, putting him in pei hwa seems like the right thing to do as it is walking distance from home. parents have to do the pushing...as teachers during parent-teacher meetings told us what to do.janet88,

I understand your concern over choosing between 2 schools since you are under phase 2A. don't know anything about KPS, so it's not fair for me to comment.
for my younger daughter, she was under phase 1 (pei hwa) and my former school (phase 2A). as she tends to be academically weak, we decided on my former school as it is not SAP school and also she will like the all girls' environment...she has been enjoying going to school everyday (she's in p5).
as in all schools, parents have to make the effort to coach and not leave all the teaching to the teachers. -
Parents’ support is crucial in current education system, you know your child’s strengths and weaknesses. I learnt that even if your child is placed in a ‘better’ school, he/she may not have the best teachers. From friends’ sharing, their children who are in the better class tends to have better teachers. So if your child did not manage to be placed in the ‘better’ school, work towards to be placed in the best class, more opportunities to participate in national competitions.

Of course I’m not saying other classes do not have good teachers. Because the students who are in better classes are fast learners, hence, the teachers can stretch them further, giving them more opportunities and challenges and the students feel fulfilling and not necessarily stressed. Whereas for the students who are weak in their academics, the teachers will need more time to build their foundation and skills and hence they will not have time for any extras.
I know those GEP centres, the better classes (non GEP) are also taught by GEP teachers and they get to enjoy some of GEP resources, ie same HCL syllabus like the GEP, do Future Problem Solving projects or IVP -
for SAP school, standard of MT is definitely higher. at p5 for those who take standard Chinese, it is still more difficult compared to non-sap schools.
