All About Home Addresses

Yes, is the \"rich and yet not so rich\" category, being impacted.
If they have money to splurge, what's there to worry? Those who can afford to pay for million dollar houses won't be concerned about such things. Actually for those who are truly rich, they won't even bother about the houses. They can easily send their children to international schools or overseas. It's the rich, but not quite billionaire type who needs to calculate their risks.
cannot suka suka rent condo, just to get kids into a specific school.
a lot tougher now.
the super-rich (multi millionaire, billionaire) : wont feel any pinch of pain
why make it 30 months, not 36 months (3 full years) ? -

So isn't that great? They will be at the mercy of the landlords. So best is don't do such a thing. Be honest. It's a good example for the children too. If the teachers ask the children where they stay to do spot check, do the parents expect them to lie? Or worse, teach them to lie? I think that is a terrible price to pay just to go into a school.another problem that can arise is :
those greedy landlords, knowing that rental parents are trapped inside for 30 months : anytime \"suka-suka\" can also increase the rental, eg: say, double the rental charges.
this can also back off parents, from renting houses -
One thing to note for those who uses grandparents address to register. It means the grandparents cannot shift house within 30 months too.

Usually grandparents won't be moving house.
Hard to rent a place for 30 months, usually it's 2 years per contract and amount is fixed. Renew contract means landlord will ask for increase even if it's just 6-7 months of stay. -
grandparents unlikely to shift house, agree or loop hole ⦠?

Again, please get your facts right. The most recent case was about a man who used his uncle's investment property address to register for his daughter. He did not rent it and the whole the family didn't stay in it. Even the newspaper reported it as a case of fake address!
It isn't fake address. They are genuine rental units but they didn't stay in them and the units were rented to other pp. To say that $36k is what most families can afford shows how little you know about the income of the families in Singapore. $36k is what many families earn in a year. Being able to afford $36k a year on rentals isn't poor. It is a rich vs richer game in this. Not a poor vs rich. I personally find it distasteful for you to say that $36k is within the limits of most families, including the poor. It's like saying driving a Toyota is for the poor pp when driving a car itself is an expensive if not unattainable dream for many.
The median household monthly income for Singapore in year 2014 was reported to be $8207, which worked out to an annual median household income of around $100k a year. The average household income is even higher.
I reiterate the point that to fork out $36K is within reach for the median households, whereas $150K is out of reach.
Beside closing the off the loophole for rental properties, MOE should also look into the use of fake addresses. Parents have been known to use their siblings, relatives, and friends addresses for registration without staying in the unit for a single day. This is another loophole that should be closed or penalized. -

Usually not the case. Most couples use grandparents' address to register kids...but it will be under 1-2 km even if grandparents stay within 1 km. -

ask parents to produce past one year all the monthly billed water bill / electricity bill / gas bill : check if address billed to tally with the P1 registration address declared -
HAHA... you can always try! Because I know someone who did that last year at a branded school at Bukit Timah... And the school found out about it. But bought their story and still let the girl study in the school!

I have an existing property which I rented out currently. Can I still use this address to apply as its within 1km of the school Or do I need to move back to qualify?

True...if MOE is set on closing loophole on rental for phase 2C, then it should go all the way to penalize this other group as well.
