As usual my son did not bring back the appointment booking form.

According to him, priority will be given to those who failed in the SA.

I assume priority will be given to the O level students as well.

A bit worried that my son did not get any 6 in his sciences and maths and not sure whether he can improve in the subsequent exam to do HL next year or not.

I'm going.
Tho DS din fail in any subject, he did badly in everything, even his strongest subject. :faint:
Is this a typical wake-up call at Y3? Obviously the boy still sleeping, but the mommy got jolted up & threaten to approach every single teacher if he doesn't get me some slots. So he secured 4 slots.

If you have 4 slots then you should go.

Form past experience it's almost impossible to get any time with the teacher if don't have any slot at all.

My ds only managed to get 1 slot. He did not actively try to book with his teachers anyway. Gave the excuse he’s busy with charity cafe, etc. I wonder if the school can change their PTM procedures. Let the parents book instead of the child. In my dd’s previous secondary school, we only meet the form teacher who has a compiled list of comments from all subject teachers.

actually it depends on teachers and the subjects they teach. I saw some super long queue while some have hardly any parents/students approaching them.

I managed to meet 2 other teachers on top of the 4 allocated slots. In fact during the previous 2 PTM, I also managed to squeeze in additional slots. What I do is keep an 'eagle-eye' ..... the moment there's no queue & vacant, I just approached the teachers. I'll make it known that I do not have any allocated slot and just need a quick update

Don't worry too much as for most students, course work in term 3 usually helps to pull up the overall scores. Keeping fingers crossed..... All the best!

p/s: You may like to note that moving on, it is important for students to get a good grasp of concepts covered in Yr 3 & Yr 4 in order to cope with the load in Yr 5/6. I've seen boys with weak foundation struggling to revise old concepts in parallel with learning new topics. Tough.

Poor mummy, what a rude shock!

Year 3 is indeed a steep step up from year 2. The boys can no longer 靠运气or 临时抱佛脚. Coupled with CCA leadership commitment, there are many boys in the same situation as your son....

Nothing is lost. Consistent work is the key. With proper time management, as long as assignments are completed diligently, he'll do okay moving on..... 加油！！！ :rahrah:

For A levels, the kids are allowed to choose triple science : Physics, Chem & Bio
In IB, it seems that you have to choose one subject from each group.
1. Are students allowed to choose triple sciences in Acsi?
2. Are students streamed in Y3&4 or only in Y5&6? Meaning, are the students allowed to take triple sciences in Y3&4?

I don't think you are allowed to do triple science in A levels. There is a requirement to do a contrasting subject. Most A level science students will take PCM+contrasting subj or BCM+contrasting subj.

If you are talking about Yr3&4, yes there is still triple science combi, but not in Yr5 onwards for A levels.

Nobody does triple science at A-levels or IB these days. Since my (long-ago) time, the model for most universities (medicine is the main concern) has mostly become chemistry plus one other science. For UK it should be Bio and Chem, with the equivalent of O-level physics as a foundational plus (some UK universities still require triple-pre-u-science, but those are rare). For US, they have pre-med anyway.

2. They can take three sciences in Years 3 and 4, but they will only do a maximum of two in Years 5 and 6.

If lets say, the child moves to another country in Year 5&6 due to parents relocating, can they go to an IB SChool in that country and continue his studies from where he left off in acsi? Reason being, they don’t have any certificate after Y4. How to prove he has completed his studies up to that point?

Yes, they do follow the IB style in the Integrated Programme up to Y4. You can get a certificate from ACS(I) with a transcript that will show what the student has done.
