      Hi

Anyone with Cambodian maids received any \"love letter\" from MOM recently like in the past few weeks saying that \"you have been selected for an interview\" ... and towards the end of the letter, it says \"this interview is mandatory\"?

I got this letter yesterday -- it says they are conducting interview sessions with Cambodian maids and their employers to assess the suitability of them working in Singapore and it's important we attend the interview as it's for their \"pilot project phase\". So I'm wondering what this means. Because I serrrrrriiooooussssllllllyyy hope they don't come out with a ruling few months down the road banning Cambodian maids from working here!

They will interview the maid first, then me. I suppose they may ask her random questions like how she is liking it here, am I treating her well etc? Anyone has such experience please share, thanks!
A mandatory interview? Sounds pretty high handed. On what basis can MOM force employers to participate in their research?

Precisely my thought. When i saw the heading \"you have been selected for an interview\" .. i was quite ready to chuck the letter until i decided to re-read the entire letter again and that's where i spotted the mandatory sentence.

And it's going to be in Bendeemer road - wonder if I can claim my cab fare 😛 But that's beside the point, the interview is even held in the evening with my maid starting at around 830 - 930PM and then my turn at 930 PM!

They will also ask the maid if she’s required to work at other household like ah ma’s house etc? Any other address that is not the one stated on work permit. Helping out at office/ stall… This is mandatory. MoM is very strict now.

This is probably to wrap up the pilot scheme that started in 2013 to assess whether Cambodia could be added to the MOM’s list of approved source countries and territories for maids, lowering Singapore’s dependence on maids from the Philippines and Indonesia.

              http://www.mom.gov.sg/newsroom/press-replies/2013/why-mom-kept-cambodian-maid-pilot-scheme-small

In 2013, the plan was for 6 selected employment agencies to bring in 400 workers from Cambodia, in a bid to meet the demand for maids here.

It's thru this pilot scheme that you got this FDW in the first place.

                hi jetsetter

thanks. i googled earlier before your reply came in and realised it could be linked to this pilot scheme as well – something i didn’t know when i hired her. I’m just trying to get a feel of what is going to be asked and if it’s really mandatory for me to attend. I stated that in the letter it says PM but when i called the officer, they clarify it’s AM – imagine if i didn’t clarify with them!
