Hi my Myanmar maid has no off day, she prefers to take cash in lieu of off day. She requested to buy a handphone after she finished her loan, so far so good, she only talks/sms after my kids went to childcare and/or night time after she finished all the household chores. I told her in advance no usage of hp whenever she is looking after my kids or doing household chores, so far she seemed to follow the ‘rules’ well.

What I have found is some maids will demand to use their HP during work hours and if you don’t let them they will up and runaway.

If you let them use only afterhours they are on the phone all night txting their bangla boyfriends so it is a real fine line to tread.

If you can find a maid to agree to only have phone on weekends you are doing well.

In regards to off day we tell out maids to be back by 7 and even that is too hard for most of them

          Hi

My maid sometimes will come home late. She supposed to be back at 7pm.We will remind her to be punctual when going on next off day.

I noticed that when maid come home after off day, she will be very tired. The subsequent days after her off day, still in holiday mood and affect work performance eg forget to do this and that. Forgot to off heater and stove switches.Need to be reminded again.

I have an ex sg maid for near 2 years. She has been working in Sg for the past 8 years, so it is not possible to bar her from using handphone but i am ok with that, so long as she does not use handphone in front of me. My maid agency said that it is rude to do that so she followed. Also, she needs her off day to be with her friends, i let her out from 9am to 9pm, came back tired but happy. So long as she is happy, then our job as employer is easier too.

I have told my maid she can use her phone at night - I don’t think it is reasonable to bar them from using their handphones altogether. We would not be happy if we were barred from our hps/computers after all. She gets one off day a month, at her choice because she wants the money in lieu of the other off days. Agree that off days and hp usage may lead to problems but I think they should be treated fairly, as fellow human beings.

How long duration to let maid use her hp at night is advisable don't want the helper to use too long and sleep late and affect next day work performance.

                      Hi

Find that giving maid off days and usage of hp create a lot of problems as some maids are not discipline during working hours they wanted to use the hp.At night even before finishing chores or settle the children to sleep wanted to use the hp.
After off day the next few days of work will be sloppy the work performance dropped. Going out on off days mixed with her Filipino maids frebs come back give employers problem. Sigh
