      Hi,

      I need help on this question. Can someone help as I need to explain to my gal?

      1. Ali has a total of $76. Some are $2 notes and the rest are $5 notes. He has 4 more $5 notes than $2 notes. How many $2 notes and $5 notes does Ali have?

      Thank you!
      4 more $5 notes -> $20
      (? x $2) + (? x $5) + $20 = $76
      $2 + $5 = $7
      ? -> ($76 - $20)/$7 = 8
      8 + 4 = 12

      Ans : 8 $2 notes and 12 $5 notes.

        Take out $2 and $5. Set a simple question. Using 2 and 3 as answer.
        Ali has $19, some are $2, some are $5. He has 1 more $5 note than $2 note.
        Once solved, increase 2 and 3 to 4 and 7 then 14 and 19.

        In case u need help to solve question or show working.
        $76 - 4x $5 = $56. (Remove 4x extra $5, so same amount of $2 and $5 notes)
        $2+$5 = $7 (1 group of $2 and $5 = $7, group them so can find number of groups)
        $56 / $7 = 8 (groups of $2 and $5, there 8x$2 and 8x$5, don't forget 4 extra $5 subtracted earlier on)
        8 + 4 = 12

          Do we need to draw model for this type of question? Is it a must. Will teacher deduct marks if children did not draw model. Thank you.

              "He has 4 more $5 notes than $2 notes.", so subtract the 4 more $5 notes from $76.

              76 - 4 x5 = 76 - 20 = 56

              Then, in the remaining $56, there is an equal number of $5 note and $2 notes. That means for each $5 note, there must be one $2 note. We put one $5 note and one $2 note in one group. Then check there are how many groups in the remaining $56.
              56 / (2+5) = 56 / 7 = 8

              So Ali has 8 $2 notes and 12 $5 notes.

                Hi,

                1) Key word is 4 more $5 notes than $2 notes—> There is are pairs of ($2+$5) + 4 x $5 (4 notes left over)
                2) $76-$20 = $56
                3) $56 / $7 = 8 pairs of ($5,$2)
                4) Ans: 8 $2 notes and 12 $5 notes
