      Will my child get CCA Participation points in sec 4? I heard that you have to fulfill 75% of the attendance a year in order to get that participation point. Sec 4 step down from the CCA early to prepare for o levels, so will he still get the point for that year despite not attending CCA for one whole year?

      According to my sec 4 girl, she already has her grade for CCA given end of Sec 3. So all she has to do for this year is to just have regular attendance to maintain that grade b4 she steps down - I think end of Term 2.

        Will my child get CCA participation points for attending math olympiad lessons??

        <extract>
        Pupils may participate in more than one CCA. Points are awarded for pupils’ participation in a second CCA at school representation level or higher.
        Minimum attendance in the second CCA is not a criterion for points to be
        computed.
        <end>

        You mentioned in the other thread that this is for second CCA right?
        Students will not get any participation point for attendance from second CCA unless they represent school in competition.

        You may like to clarify this with the school.

        Oh ok. Because my child told me that he attended Math olmypiad competition last year( but did not attend lesson) and all he get was representation points. However, his friends who attended both the lesson and the competition got participation points.

          <<extract>>
          Points are awarded for participation in the main CCA with at least 75%
          attendance rate.....
          For pupils with an attendance rate of 50% - 74%, the CCA points
          scored for the year will not be computed. However, CCA points
          accumulated in earlier years can be retained for computation when the
          pupil rejoins a CCA and fulfils the 75% attendance rate criterion.
          An attendance rate of less than 50%, except for medical reasons, would
          constitute a break in the CCA and all points accumulated up to and
          including that year would be annulled.
          <end>

          Your child must attend until the day the school declares step down. 75% attendance for Sec 4 is computed to the day of stepping down. If your child didnt attend any single session in Sec 4, his participation for Sec 4 is 0.
          Besides, they will compute the overall attendance from Sec 1 to Sec 4 to fulfill minimum 50%, otherwise all points accumulated from Sec 1 to 4 would be annulled.

          Hope it helps.

          Oh so in a nutshell, he will still get CCA participation point for that sec 4 year?

            Is that second CCA for his friend as well ? Sometimes schools do award points wrongly and that's what happened to my dd1 last yr (S4), I have to call school and officer-in-charge from MOE before she has her points restored back. This point system is rather confusing.

              Yes it is the second CCA for them as well. Haiz, my child is rather vexed because he says he just need one more point to get an A and he hopes to get that participation point for math olmypiad. I guess he seriously don't know what to do because he got 5 for his CIP points already.

Depends on how much opportunity you get from school. Math Olympiad is also my second CCA but I didn't get any participation points. Only representation points. Heh maybe I should check with my teacher. Do you know what position we must attain to get achievement points?

                    Depends on the school. For my school, it is not necessary. There will be auditions (most schools have auditions) and if they see the potential in you, then the CCA will select you to be in their CCA. Yes, the CCA selects you more than you choose the CCA.

                      It is sad that there are so few places left for sports and performing arts. Some are taken up by students with sports DSA. Indeed true that the CCA chooses the students and not the students choose the CCA.

                        i'm a member from a UG (NCC girls) and i really enjoy myself very much.

                        many people think ncc is too rough a cca for girls. i beg to differ. ncc has developed my character in many ways- how i adapt to things, and stuff. the camps and everything has taught me all the basic survival skills like field cooking and stuff. i do get many opportunities to learn many things 🙂

                        many people dislike a UG but really, if you put your heart and passion into it, you can really enjoy it a lot.
