      hi matrix0405,

your point is interesting...but what are the valid reasons that we can give to the sch when requesting for transfer?
First you must have that relationship, then it is easy to find a valid reason. Otherwise, they are all excuses.

To get into a good primary school, you really need good luck charms and well versed connections. This is what happened to a relative of mine, her daughter went into Nanyang Primary via a mere call!

For my baby, I don't need this. A reasonably repute primary school will be fine for us

Hm.mm...this is interesting. My mom told me she and my dad literally begged the then principal of Nanyang Pri for days to let my elder brother in. That was of course back in the 1980s. I'm surprised this still works now!

my mom also begged my principal to let me have a place to study...

I find this information very useful for parent who are not in phase 1 and 2A but still aiming for popular schools. Although it is not originally from me but I think it should be re-posted for those who need to know.

Maybe it's time to do a 'Step-by-Step ChiefKS' Guide to Primary 1 Pre-registration Procedure'? They may go something like...

Step 1 : Ensure that you start sourcing for schools 3 years prior to year of registration
Step 2 : List down your list of schools
Step 3 : Obtain past year balloting/vacanices statistics from <link>
                Step 4 : Check Phase 2C statistics - balloting required for within 1km? 1-2km?
Step 5 : Then check Phase 2B statistics - balloting required for within 1km? 1-2km?
Step 6 : Find out the distance between your house and your school

Step 7 : Determine the chances of success rate by analysing info obtained in Step 5 and 6.
Step 8 : If decided to try for Phase 2B, have to decide which route to take..

Anyone can clarify? Let’s just say if one is a PV or belong to church/clan, opting to register under Phase 2B, but as school is popular, balloting required and result was unsuccessful. You will automatically fall into Phase 2C and will be subject to same selection criteria as those who targeted in Phase 2C all these while. Has there been situation where under Phase 2B say <1km failed and then under Phase 2C <1km is successful?

                  Am i complicating matter 😛

                    hi Mummypumpkin

If you join PV or church/clan and managed to ballot for Phase2B and if unfortunately did not manage to get a place even if <1km due to overwhelming demand, you can try your chance again at Phase 2C which is open to all PRs/Singaporeans.

Yes, there are cases where you do succesfully into into the school of choice in Phase 2C (<1km, could be there are lesser applicants in Phase2C) and not in phase 2B altho there is quite rare.

Is your child registering this year and which school are you aiming at ?

Nope. Starting school for Yr 2011 and doing the research 1.5 yrs ahead of time. I have two boys, and would like to consider ACS Jr. As I was from a girl’s school, it is not to my advantage and my hubby is not PR/Sg either.

It sounds very interesting to me that begging principals still work today???

My relative had used connections at a school board level to get another relative kids in 10 years ago. We have been told that this method and also donation no longer works in recent years as MOE is very strict… if donation and begging could work, I would not mind giving it a shot.

Anyone has any concrete experience and at which year was this done? I would love to know which school but I guess it would be very sensitive.
