        Hi there,

am wondering what the individual writing entails in primary 1… saw this as part of T3 and T4 P1 English assessment.

        would appreciate inputs.

        Thanks.

Hi parents, my daughter is going to be in the 2016 cohort @RGPS. May I know which are the most popular CCAs for P1? When are the children supposed to sign up for a CCA (or 2)?

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Popular Ccas are those individual Sports CCA that involve inter-primary schools competition, or those CCAs that win Gold Honors or Distinction award, in SYF (Sg youth festival) event.

SYF is held in alternate year.

Next year 2016 : conduct SYF

Form Tr will issue P1 Parents CCA form, sometime during P1 Term 1, after P1 students had settled down to school weekly timetable routine.
CCA is compulsory only from P4 onwards, in our school.
Cca is optional, during Lower primary (P1 to P3).

However, even though Cca is optional in lower primary, based on observation : there are many P1 and P2 pupils started joining CCA, too.
They do not want to wait until P4, then start CCA.
My guess is that perhaps pupils prefer to be holistic overall : not only able to handle academic, but also well balanced with CCA as well.

CCA days fall on Tue or Thur, depending on which type of CCA chosen.
Every Tue / Thur morning, before 10 am CCA start, you see a number of grandparents (sometimes parents) or maids / helper drop off these pupils at the front porch Gate 1, for CCA.

P1 pupils usually take up only 1 CCA, not 2.

Note that taking up 1 CCA is sufficient : as it can be time consuming or demanding, especially if your child happen to participate in SYF event.
Rehearsal for SYF training can be conducted twice or thrice sessions per week, each session lasting 2 or 3 hours, depending on which type of CCA it is.

If a certain, particular CCA is over heated / meet overwhelming demand, then, priority is given to P2 pupils first.

            Eg
our school does not offer ballet, as CCA.
For Dance related : we only have Chinese dance, Malay dance, Indian dance, broadway musical dance, Modern dance.
Chinese dance is popular, won Gold award before.

During Chinese dance practice rehearsal, when trying to perform a very nice, beautiful pattern formation while cameramen taking photo of the lovely dance pattern formation : the heavier weight P2 girls may stand at the bottom of the formation , support the weight of lighter feather weight girls stepping on their shoulder for support, climb onto one another shoulder for support, in order to bring out this beautiful dance formation. Those girls with gymnastic background experience, may turn some cartwheel around, make Chinese dance interesting to watch.

            eg
may watch 2012 SYF Chinese dance (Gold award)
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTq_mdw0Dmc

            As for ballet :
a number of Our P1 & P2 learning ballet outside on their own (because school don't offer ballet) and take RAD graded exam, come April.

It must have been the new P1 parents reading this thread. 😄 Recently, I received requests from fellow RGPS sisters to scan photos for them. I decided to post some more of these here so more sisters can enjoy these photos. Here they go:

                      Dear Mummies

I am very new to this forum. I am an alumni member of RGPS and my daughter will only be going to Primary 1 only in 2017 (registering her only next year in 2016).

Academically wise, I have not enrolled my daughter in any academic enrichment classes like phonics or chinese. The childcare which she is currently focuses on \"play\" concept - and hence, even in K1, there is no spelling or ting xie. I do recognise the importance of play and hence I do not want to put so much pressure on her.

My friends whose children are in so-called neighbourhood tells me that it is important to put the children to be in the first 2 classes as the schools would put the resources in these two classes.

With RGPS, may I find out whether does it work the same? Meaning, if my daughter does not perform as well as expected, will the teachers not be motivated or bothered with the low performing students?

I am a little concerned and still in a dilemma about registering her in RGPS.

By the way, anyone staying in Jurong or Telok Blangah area? I would like to find out what time the school bus comes to pick your daughter.

                      Thanks!!! 😄

                        Hi pongpit,

RGPS does not have the top class anymore. Started this year, other than the 2 GEP classes, the rest are multi-talent classes. That’s from P4 onwards.

Will the kindly have spelling and ting Xie from k2 ? Almost all sch in sg will have them in primary school. So I don’t think elsewhere be any different. Just the words level of difficulty. My DD in P1 this year. And comparing against her friends in other schools. It’s pretty much average standard. Unless you compare against more "English" schools like ACS. Then ours easier. Or against more "Chinese" schools like NYPS then their Chinese harder. There’s almost no homework except an occasional sheet or 2. Spelling is weekly. Ting Xie is alternate weeks. So far my take on P1 it’s pretty much a honeymoon year still.

Teachers are always encouraging. There’s additional supplementary sessions in English and Chinese for the weaker ones. They need come school earlier 1-2x a week for those sessions. But parents play just as an important part in ensuring they are doing well too.

                        Hope it’s helpful.
