I think the most impt lesson is to make Science relates to real life. It's definitely not enough to ingest tons of facts only. The exam mode is moving towards understanding and applications.IJJ,
Science texts have been lousy for many years.
A cousin advised me to get supplementary textbooks to teach. Some supplementary texts are either too detailed or doesn't stay close to the school text...very frustrating. -
My son’s FT-cum-Science/Maths teacher told us there will be many experiments when she teaches Interactions (magnets)…hopefully that will instill more interest in the kids and remember better.

Hi,
I’m new here. My ds is in PHPPS. P1 this year. Hope to know some parents whose kid is in P1.
As I’m new to the primary school system, so quite blur with the coming SA1 in May. The school is somehow preparing them for the SA1, especially the oral portion. But I’m rather confused, how should I prepare my ds in both his chinese and english SA1. What are they expected to know? They are given some handouts to read at home. What are we suppose to do with them beside asking him to read? -

Hi, I have a p1 boy too. it will help a lot if you get him to try out past papers from other schools. let him get used to the exam format and increase his confidence. even if he does not do well with the papers, it's ok. knowing what is his weakness now is better finding out during the exams. he will progress with each paper. you should also review the teacher's notes and worksheets with him before exams. Do read also what other parents shared in this PHPPS forum. all the best.Hi,

This week's DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) week. Today must be exciting for some P1s and P2s as they get to dress up in book character costumes. My dd went as Snow White last year. This year, I felt she's a little \"old\" for such thing but still she was just as excited. She said this would only be fun for the lower primary, you don't expect the P sixes to dress up, right?
This year, she is a \"Cinderella-who-didn't-lose-her-glass-slippers-but-forgot-to-bring-her-purse\". After all the hooha, she left home without $$ for recess. What a price to pay for being fanciful. -
Hi to all KS parents:
Can I just check whether any of you can advise me how to increase my son’s chance to get a place in Pei Hwa?
I am living within 2km to the school.
Oso to check do P1 & P2 students in Pei Hwa got any test or exam??

How old is your ds? If he is 5 this year, may still have time to write in to request to be parent volunteer (PV) but no harm checking with school. If he is 4 this year, you can write in after June. There will be a selection process. Being PV, you can register your ds at phase 2B. For my dd's year, phase 2B applicants residing within 2 km need not ballot, all were accepted. However, it still depends on the no. of applicants for phase 2B for your ds's year.Hi to all KS parents:
I am living within 2km to the school.
Within 1 km, chances are higher without having to volunteer. Within 1-2km, may need to volunteer. Still, it depends on the applicants for your ds's year.
Oso to check do P1 & P2 students in Pei Hwa got any test or exam??
P1 - Mid-year Exam in May (SA1) and Final-year Exam in Nov (SA2)
P2 - CA1 in March, Mid-Year Exam in May (SA1) and Final-year Exam in Nov (SA2)
Is any of ur child from Pei Hwa feels Stress??
It depends on individual child's ability to cope. In PHPPS, they will be banded at the end of P1 according to their results to a new P2 class. -
E3,
I didn't know DEAR week is so interesting.
GyGy,
It's good exposure for your son to do past year exam papers from other schools...this will help him get some idea what exam is, and know different exam formats. For Chinese, you can select 2-3 schools using Higher Chinese.
