Thanks for all the feedback on getting books or software on word evolution.


I am also looking for good books to teach hanyu pingyin. If anyone come across such books, please kindly post here to share.

My son is weak in hanyu pinyin. He can read accurately most of the time, but somehow when he has to write it down, he gets it all wrong :stupid: I don't know why is he like that. Any advise?

I’m new here.

My DD is 5 this year. I’ve just started her on Si Wu Kuai Du book 1, now at lesson 6.

I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what chinese story books i can buy to help complement the teaching in Si Wu Kuai Du?

For English phonics, I use the Peter and Jane series. I’m just wondering if there’s an equivalent of Peter and Jane in Chinese, so that I can progress as I go along to more difficult words.

I’m looking for story books that would help reinforce the words she has already learned, so she won’t forget them. I wonder if this should be the case? I’ve bought quite a number of chinese story books from dangdang.com, but i find that its still a little difficult for her, as there will be words that are too difficult for her, so i’ve not started her on those books yet.

Also, I’ve heard rave reviews about berries. Is it too late to start her, now that she is in K1? How should I guage if I should send her to chinese enrichment classes? She’s constantly in a chinese speaking environment. Her spoken chinese is much better than her English. She also enjoys her chinese classes in her kindergarten.

My boy is in K1, and I just started him on Berries in late Feb this year. I don’t think it is too late. He has picked up a lot just in few lessons. Of course compared to those who started in nursery, he can’t be as good. But to me, it is better late than never.

Having said that, since your gal is already in a more chinese environment, I don’t think it is necessary to send to any enrichment though.

I bought the pelangi publisher chinese series for those repetitive CL words. It's like Peter and Jane. They have different levels. They should carry on their website. I actually bought it at Popular during our recent trip to Malacca. I like pelangi publisher CL books as I find it very comprehensive. Observed that my older kids are also being introduced to their CL books in school.

In our case, after reading from the books and her enrichment class, I will write down the new CL words that she learnt on a cardboard that is pasted on the wall. It's like a CL word bank. I did the same for english as well. Almost everyday, I will revise the words with my K1. I am seeing results as there are some words that she will constantly forget initially but after few days of revision, she now remembers them.

In addition, we also inherited some of the CL books from my nephew. He used to attend PCF. The CL series is really good with repetitive words. It seems like their regular story book.

This is the series I was refering to. One feature is :
幼儿首100字 -幼儿200字 -幼儿300字 -幼儿400字 -幼儿500字
So they will have repetitive words to enforce the 100 words,etc... My K1 is currently on the 100 words series. But KS me actually bought the entire series up to at least 300 words in case we do not go to Msia so often.

Frankly, I've not seen it at Popular. In fact, I find the selection limited. I am not sure if you can purchase this from the website. I paid around MYR 5.20 each book. I observed that Malaysia Popular seems to have a better/ more comprehensive selection of CL story books. Their CL standard also seems to be higher. Besides preschooler, they also have P1-P3 story books that are quite good too.
