Can I check how many of you/your child(ren) follow closely to the suggested list of story books (according to their respective level) to read? My child told me one of her classmates has a GE scored of 7.8 for her Star reading test. Amazing.

She didn't follow. Too much hassle, I felt. I let her read the books that we'll both enjoy. She reads a variety of genres though. Her favourite is novels. I bought many recommended books during my NIE days and she'll devour them. I read all her books to screen thru content and also to discuss the interesting parts with her, mainly to cue on her understanding. My dd's class highest is a boy who scored 8.2.

          Impressive!! Ch2, right?

Mine also read a variety, but the list certainly stirs her interest in reading the entire Chronicles of Narnia besides the 2 parts that were made into Movies. ๐Ÿ˜‰ [/b]

Did your dd's teacher attach a list for her? My dd's teacher did not. Her P1 teacher did that last year and I noticed some of the books were the common titles that are either award-winning or classics books. Chronicles of Narnia is a very interesting book (The compiled version). Your girl might enjoy The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall and What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge. My dd's personal favourite.

Just checked with my dd. That boy scored 8.5, not 8.2.

Yes, her FT attached a list for P3&4. Perhaps the list your dd rec last year was for P1&2, that could be the reason she did not get it again this year. Thanks for your recommendations, we will check these titles up. I have no idea what's the highest score in her class/cohort, but her best friend's score of 7.8 already impressed me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didnโ€™t follow the reading list givenโ€ฆjust let him read whatever he likes. Last weekend, I bought this book on idioms in โ€˜comicsโ€™ style to instill interest and to get him to use idioms/proverbs in his compo.

The GE score is just a number. I am not entirely sure of its accuracy. The boy who scored 8.5 did not top the class for Eng CA1. The range of the GE score is very wide in her class, 2.5, 3.4, 4.4, 5.6, 6.0, 6.8, 7.2. These are just some numbers my dd's closer friends shared. Some of these girls scored above 95 for CA1. My dd's GE is in the 6.0 - 7.0 range. What I gathered from this Star Reading Test is, for some kids who know they are above average readers nationally could possibly boost their confidence a little. Still, what's more important is that they must continue to find joy in reading regardless of the score. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                    Dear Mummys,

My daughter is taking her very 1st SA soon. May i check with you all how do we prepare her for the coming SA for all the subject involved?

I have received information from the school about the grading system for EL paper 1 and oral exmination last night. In what can we help her to score well in these areas?

                    Thanks

My son's homework for EL yesterday was from his Listening Comprehension book...he was supposed to see the picture and describe it, and also to read the passage fluently.

As for Paper 2, I planned a revision time table for SA1...we will go through all the chapters starting from the 1st, using a new assessment book for all the subjects. If time permits, then I will get him to do 2-3 past year exam papers from other schools.
