Anyway, just got my son to revise his spelling for wed. The words are jellyfish, squid, dolphin, soon n under. Very easy.

Ya, my wife lost. She saw how he hates spelling and ting xie now. I have always wanted him to drop chinese. The exemption letter exist for a reason! Yes, he is 2009 and I will use that exemption letter too on the first day of P1, if I get things my way. Grrr....

Er....your revised spelling list still looks difficult. As long as he does not get disenchanted, I suppose it should be ok? I revised my boy's next week spelling to snap, swim, stop, spin, small, rest. LoL! I am allergic to academic stress!

My boy got a place under Phase 1. Has phase 3 started? Ya I know that anxiety. My eldest went for ballot at 2C and didn't get selected. Keep your fingers crossed, k?

Is phase 2B now, Phase 2C is next week.
Thankfully my boy has no problem with spelling so far. I tested him the words yesterday, he only had problem with Dolphin and Squid. But he sorted it out after practicing for another 10mins. or so. So in all, I only spent about 20mins with him on the spelling words.

Good luck on getting exemption of Chinese for your boy too. Next year will be a new chapter for our boys. I worry about so many things, hiaz I am sure my mind will be with him all the time even physically I am at work.

who can help to tackle classroom behaviour? Or what method to get the message across to child.

Does an occupational therapy help classroom behaviour?
1 to 1 he is able to follow.

The behaviour problem arises in class group setting.He has difficulty sitting still, pay attention and focus (short attention span and ideas change very fast - distracted). He will walked about in class when other children are sitting down listening to lesson/do worksheet.

KK hospital can give advice to parents, how to handle hyperactive kids.

KK hospital will also ask parents whether they (parents) wish to attend counseling : how to handle an active child, at home ? They can arrange a counsellor to meet up with parents, guide them how to handle an active child.

10 mins is good time for a preschooler. Maybe should just keep the tasks to just 10mins.

That's a start. If possible, catch him before he leaves his seat or send him back immediately and extend by a few more minutes (maybe 3-5 mins). Hopefully, over time, you can keep stretching the time till he reaches the required time. But be patient and stay at each new level for several days in a row before extending again. You may want to reduce distractions during this phase until he's got used to the longer time.

That's a WOW! EXCELLENT piece of work! My children cannot produce this kind of standard but I do pin their drawings on the walls of the house and I tell them how beautiful their drawings are (by their standards) :^)

I was reading in amusement about how you confronted the teacher and this incident makes me recall a story my colleague shared with me. Basically, she has 2 sons of different intelligence level. One was in Gifted programme while the eldest son struggled with homework. She taught him spelling using a role reversal. She acted stupid and made his son teach her spelling every night and gave her son a ruler to hit her palm when she spelt wrongly. She was Chinese educated, knew little English but she was full of ideas. So, moral of the story is to look at things from another angle?

Sometimes in life, we parents tend to be overly protective, but there are times we need to let go (although I do agree that your son's spelling list is difficult). If he doesn't get full marks, it is okay
I set a rubrics for my son, so 9-10 is excellent, 7-8 is very good, 5-6 is good... haha.. just to build his confidence.

From what I read, your son is on the milder side of the spectrum, not like my son. He was rejected by schools because he had speech and behavioural issues. I was the kind of parent who practically had to beg the schools to keep him. So, I could not challenge the teacher the way you did. However, I am always grateful for all these 'reminders' from everyone that my child has difficulties coping and that I am not doing enough to help him.

Hi mummies and daddy,


Hope you all and your LOs are doing well.

My son has been attending his EIP class for about 7 weeks and I am so happy that he is settling well there. Get along very well with his teachers also. Can hear him laughing and shouting in excitement. And he is also attending weekly OT and ST there and he is improving.

Now my headache is for next year if i should continue him at EIPIC or enroll to childcare. I see some kids attending both kindergarten (AM) and EIPIC (PM) every day. I think it's too tiring for him and I am unsure if he can get up in time for school. Let me hear some of your views on this? He has no speech yet and can't follow the instruction well. But his attention span becomes longer and can participate in class activity.

And another thing is his Dr at CDU recommended us to consult a genetic dr in NUH. Anybody has seen a genetic dr and done the genetic test? if yes, can you please share your experience? I haven't decided if I should go or not. :?
