      Hello!

Like to do a quick ‘survey’ on the current market rate for school buses as I’m exploring a change in school and most likely need to engage this service. I have called up quite a few schools so far, I was quoted $80 (mini van) and $120 (private car) for 2-way from 2 operators. Is this the norm? Thanks!

          Heyya purple,

          Welcome to KiasuParents!

Share with you rates from my own kiddies first, k.
Btw you didn't mention your child in pre-school or
          primary...

Niwae, for mini-van for like 13 to 15 (incl 1 trpt assistant)
during pre-school was $45 both ways. (Sch was located in
a different area from where we resided - for eg. btwn Wlds
          & Yishun)

Then, primary school with inclusion of 1 trpt assistant as well,
was $39 last year both ways (very near - ie. for areas with
same street names but different street numbers / avenues)
via a big coach-like bus (like the holiday coaches / Sentosa
bus ). This year was $45 after the petrol increase news last
year. So far, no news of reduction even when petrol isn't so
          sky high anymore.. fingers crossed.

For when i was working pre-school, the centre charged about..

2-way rates for mini van (with 1 assistant) :
          $60 - nearbly only
$90 - slightly out by 2 neighbourhood names
$120 - for totally out of school zone & out by 3 neighbourhood names onwards

Hope this helps in your survey, purple!
Cheerios, and have a great weekend!
          :celebrate:

When my DD went to a childcare a short distance from home (by car is about 15 minutes*), it was by private car with one driver and no assistant. Up to 10(?) children in the car (MPV). 2-way trip costs about $70 per month. This was in 2006 and 2007.

            * 15 minutes is not the direct route cos driver also picked up other kids in the neighbourhood.

10 kids in an MPV??! Umm... is that safe or legal? MPV can fit 10 seat belts or child seats?

Er, not safe and not legal, of course. But the cc is small (bungalow) and the operators didn't want to buy a minibus (and get a minibus licence) when they already had an (extra) MPV. Anyway, this was only one of the negative points that made us transfer her to another cc. Since this new cc was within walking distance, we didn't have to worry about this anymore.

One-way is $80 for my nursery kid on minivan. Observed that the seat sits 3 kids but I insist seatbelt for my boy as his journey is about 40min and last one to get off the schoolbus.
