Let's be clear here. This does not happen in just RGS for DSA students. Students in school teams across Singapore who are in competitive sports and performing arts all train and practise intensively. This takes place across many schools, especially if the schools are serious about their chances at the nationals. And it is not limited to just DSA students. Any student in the school team is expected to train as hard as the next person, regardless of whether you got in via DSA or your PSLE score. You earn a place on the school team via your ability at the sport or performing art and are expected to contribute equally. For competitive sports, three times a week is probably a minimum near nationals, and even more intensive as competition dates near. Similarly for performing arts.

DSA sports students are not unduly disadvantaged. Their team mates who are not DSA students train just as hard. And not all DSA sports students are weak academically. Support is there for these students who need extra lessons to catch up. Just as it is there for all other students who have fallen behind in certain subjects.

I'm not sure about NYGH, but as a current RG Girl with a lot of DSA classmates, I can say that the academic support for them is very strong. They do have to miss lessons a lot - and I mean a lot, since they're likely to have at least two competitions a month - but they have lots of avenues to seek help from teachers, and the teachers themselves often invite them for make-up lessons too. RG's formal school hours start slightly later on Thursdays, at 8.25am instead of 7.25am, but all teachers are still present in school, and girls can set up appointments to have make-up sessions with their teachers during this time.

Also, if it is of any concern to you, DSA students and PSLE-entry students do have equal chances at being granted major leadership positions in the school. For example, my class' current Chairperson is a DSA Netballer, and she's very well loved by the whole class. The DSA students aren't looked down upon at all either, and they often get very high grades in class too, many times even scoring better than the PSLE entrants.

So yes, I can say that the academic, and moral, support for DSA students in RG is very strong. Classes are tough for sure and exams are tougher, but we're one bonded family of sisterhood, and everyone weathers storms together here, regardless of race, language, religion, background and grade.

(Oh and yes, RGS is very project-based Around half of our grade is calculated based on projects that we do. But they're *fairly* fun )

Well, I'd say that there are more individual projects, even though the number of group projects is only less than the number of indiv projects by a small margin.

Nygh is better. Its the top school in sg + will have a higher chance of getting into HCJC

Why not rgs? -> uniform is not suitable for sg’s temperature

I think this is a silly comparison of the 2 schools.


Both schools are equally good except they have different cultures.

It’s best for the child to see what type of environment she feels comfortable in n make the selection.

Right now Im leaning more towards RGS... even though its further from my house and not as good in Chinese compared to NYGH, Mainly because of three reasons:

1) The strong sisterhood spirit.
I think the whole sisterhood thing is a really strong culture, and i think its really comforting to know that theres a whole Rafflesian family behind you to support you all the way!
2) The house system
I heard that the house system plays a big part in RGS, you learn the house cheers and win points for your house, its all very spirited and fun and loud, which I think suits my personality better as compared to NY.
3) My seniors have given very good reviews.
Many of my seniors have given good feedback about the school and the caring teachers, nice seniors, strong family... and apparently the orientation for RGS is really cool :))
BTW Im not saying that NY is bad, just that i think RG suits people like me more... maybe some students out there can identify with me.

I applied for the English domain in both schools and have finished the interview for both schools.
