Dear Chief Kiasu and all parents

I was wondering why was there no mention of Methodist Girls School since Fairfield is being considered by parents staying around Redhill area including myself. Would anyone care to share any info about this school. It seems that they have performed pretty well.

      Many thanks
      Raynreg

My understanding of MGS is, usually there is balloting within 1-2km so there is not much chances for people staying >2km. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I did not consider MGS as my 1st children is a boy. In addition.MGS is located at Bukit Timah Area. In terms of school bus or personal transport would be very demanding on the parents & the child.

I have a girl and would be in p1 in 2010. Still contemplating which is better :? .Main worry is the peer pressure in MGS (more rich kids?) btw, anyone has the 2007 psle result for pei hwa? help appreciated !!! 😉

I thought your choice should be quite easy. Pei Hwa Presbyterian is easily one of the top primary schools in Singapore. It is also a SAP school. You can look up our http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/school/pei-hwa-presbyterian-primary-school for its 2004-2006 PSLE results. Too bad it did not publish its 2007 PSLE results.

                  Thks for the reply.

But correct me if i'm wrong, girl matured faster n hence pick up faster when in pre-school. However, when the boys are mautred, they tend to out perform. As such, given a all girl school, wouldn't it be better?

Anyway, if both schools are within 1km, hows MGS then? the results seems good 🙂

I'm sorry... when you said MGS, I kept thinking you were referring to St. Margarets School 🙂 Dunno why.

You are right, Methodist Girls School has done remarkably well and very consistently over the last decade. Very good choice too.

I'm not sure I see the correlation between the speed of maturity and the need for a same-sex school, but I think it is worth your while to go down and compare these 2 schools for yourself. I like Pei Hwa for its Chinese culture, but MGS is more than a worthy consideration. You can't go wrong with either of these 2 schools.

I will pick MGS because of the affiliated secondary school. when kids are young, you cannot really tell her academic capability in comparison to the whole cohort. Entry to all secondary schools are by merit , (read : PSLE score) unless you have other special talents. With an affiliated secondary school, at least, you will be more or less guaranteed a good secondary (ie. MGS) unless your child cannot meet the cut off points for old girls. Some children only start to perform well academically at secondary level, so a good secondary school is very important also.

From what I know, MSG secondary cut off point is something like 250 or thereabout. But their own primary school girls can enter with 230, some 20 points lower.

Although it is not a SAP school, but your girl can still opt for HMT at P5 if she is good.

                        Just my opinion.
