I thought your choice should be quite easy. Pei Hwa Presbyterian is easily one of the top primary schools in Singapore. It is also a SAP school. You can look up our http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/school/pei-hwa-presbyterian-primary-school for its 2004-2006 PSLE results. Too bad it did not publish its 2007 PSLE results.

        Thks for the reply.

But correct me if i'm wrong, girl matured faster n hence pick up faster when in pre-school. However, when the boys are mautred, they tend to out perform. As such, given a all girl school, wouldn't it be better?

Anyway, if both schools are within 1km, hows MGS then? the results seems good ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm sorry... when you said MGS, I kept thinking you were referring to St. Margarets School ๐Ÿ™‚ Dunno why.

You are right, Methodist Girls School has done remarkably well and very consistently over the last decade. Very good choice too.

I'm not sure I see the correlation between the speed of maturity and the need for a same-sex school, but I think it is worth your while to go down and compare these 2 schools for yourself. I like Pei Hwa for its Chinese culture, but MGS is more than a worthy consideration. You can't go wrong with either of these 2 schools.

I will pick MGS because of the affiliated secondary school. when kids are young, you cannot really tell her academic capability in comparison to the whole cohort. Entry to all secondary schools are by merit , (read : PSLE score) unless you have other special talents. With an affiliated secondary school, at least, you will be more or less guaranteed a good secondary (ie. MGS) unless your child cannot meet the cut off points for old girls. Some children only start to perform well academically at secondary level, so a good secondary school is very important also.

From what I know, MSG secondary cut off point is something like 250 or thereabout. But their own primary school girls can enter with 230, some 20 points lower.

Although it is not a SAP school, but your girl can still opt for HMT at P5 if she is good.

              Just my opinion.

Heard that there is a chapel session each week at pei hwa. Can I have my girl excused for the chapel session because I am not a christian?

Can anyone advice me on this? thanks.

This is a very good question. I myself went through 10 years in a Christian school and was never exempted from chapel even though I was not a Christian. But I remembered that Muslims were allowed not to attend the chapel sessions, though there were hardly any Muslims in my school. Not sure how that has changed in recent years. I suppose if you have very strong objections even though you are a free-thinker and make your thoughts known to the Principal, I don't see why you can't get your daughter excused from the session. But she might feel ostracized and lonely when all her friends are doing something she is not.

                    Thanks for your sharing.

Yap, thatโ€™s what I worry too. Having her all by herself for an hour or so, alone in class.

Think it would be better to discuss this matter with the principal.

Any idea howโ€™s the principal? Is she friendly?

                        Hi,
My older kids are in a neighbourhood school which I have found have not been able to perform up to my expectations in terms of quality of teaching staff and the academic culture. I am hoping to put my youngest child in a more reputable school which is more than 2km from my residence.

Does this mean that I have to register for 2C on Tuesday 29th July 2008, Wednesday 30th July 2008 or Thursday 31st July 2008?

Anyone knows if the chances of balloting outside of 2km for RGS is at all possible or hopeless? I have checked the balloting history and current numbers, they seem to look hopeful, am I wrong in my interpretation?
