When it comes to maids, I think that it is important to treat them with kindness and respect and yet at the same time, maintain a employer-employee relationship and dont let her climb over your head

          Easily said than done though.

No one character is the same as the other, one family needs are not the same as the other, no one maid is the same personality, character, integrity, values as the other. :yikes:

            Hi Anyhowsay 1,

Yes, the agent agree to return us the Loan money only (Approx $3500) or replace another one but we have to pay the SIP, insurance again. Now I was thinking shall I get the money and find another agency or let them replace another one or keep this one. Overall is her attitude but cleaniness is good. My brother was suggest to change and get the agent to replace. My mum say just keep, she can clean. But I told her every maid will know how to clean, don’t let her take you for granted. Mainly we are unhappy with her as she answer us with Okok not yes/no mdm/sir. Alright is fine, maybe she is new on 1st few days. But after that we realise while watching TV she can lift up her leg on the small table and don’t bother to put down even we look at her. Also for food wise, she only cook her own veg as she don’t like our food! So I told my mum that we have to please and buy her food that she like only?! And in her bio-data, it mention she know how to cook but she know nothing. Last few days the worst! Our house change aircon, so those workers is here. She just walking around and don’t bother to clean those dusty things that we have to move out for them to done up the aircon. I have to tell her and she started slowly to clean. I went downstair to get some drinks for the guys, when back she is sitting at the sofa and lift up her leg again on the small table! SO HOW TO KEEP THIS ONe? PLS ADVICE! TQVM Everyone and a Good Sunday ahead!

              Hi Matthewljk,

For the first maid, I really like her and trust her lots.
As she is so decent and honest to me and my family.
              We chat like friends.
I even help her to bring some foods, toys and old clothing when i’m at Manila holiday.
But what she did really dissappointed me and i struggle to keep or let her go.
So we are actually not cruel to maid.

If you are happy with the agent, then go ahead to get the replacement maid from them, ie if you decide to change. Otherwise, take the refund and go to another agency. I have my regular agencies so I will get my replacement through them.

I also pay the insurance and SIP when I change maid. Insurance refund is pro-rated so take note of the time line.

Thus far, my maids have always been well-mannered.

Not all are competent and based on daily interactions, will try to determine if it is due to poor attitude or ability. I do keep those who fall short due to ability.

                  Hi Coolkidsrock2,

                  Thanks for your feedback 🙂
That is the problem and quite frustrated.
What do you think about the attitude problem?
Will you give in for this kind of rule manner?
Pls share your experience. Thanks 🙂

The people in my house are no nonsense. Got to go if cannot meet expectations due to attitude. Those who value their work, even if not so good, I will try to work around them.

I only have cleaning work for them. Will eat out more so that less oily, less washing up, ... I stopped teaching them how to housekeeping, too tiring to teach. This is hard to teach cos they did not grow up with the habit if being neat and tidy. I use the mess as a check or control if cleaning is done or not. So every day I am putting things back after them.

Yes you are right. Work can train, attitude can’t.

Normally is my mum who ask her what to do and I observe to tell her in English.
I get totally piss off last few days, when the aircon man is here.
Cos we change new aircon and house is in a mess.
She can walk around, rather then cleaning up the dust while they are fixing.
Have to tell her then when I went out awhile, came back… she sit on the sofa with leg on the table again… I walk pass her and give her 10 mins to auto bring down her leg… but she dun bother… so i ask her you got nothing to do?? HAizz… overall is luck… hope for the next one to be a less trouble one…

For fresh maids, usually need to tell if it is a situation that is new or non-routine. Some of them will make mistakes for such exception. But those who value their work will get it right after a few times. They try even if it is beyond their ability.

I try to see Singapore from their background - whole life as a farmer, working in the fields, use firewood for cooking, small hut that is never clean or neat, no benefit of education to expose them to good habits or concept of cleanliness, hygiene … Steep learning curve, some will learn, some will not.
