All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

that's very unfair to you...having to volunteer time and effort while others didn't have to do anything to get the 2B letter.During the phase 2B balloting process, we realise that many of our friends got the referal letter without performing any volunteering work either clan / school.
We are very upset and feel cheated. We try to seek clarification from clan but the ppl seems pushing around to school.
how did you find out? since this letter is from the clan to enjoy 2B priority, why did people there direct you to the school instead? -
Doramummy:
Could it be that this is a transition year as the clan is now moving to require parents to do PV before they issue the letter? It is true that in the past, there is no need for clan members to do PV just to get the recommendation letter. We have signed up under clan and as PV for a clan affiliated school past 2 years.
During the sign up orientatiion, the facilitator mentioned in order to get referal letter we have to perform volunteer work either in school / clan.
Last year we were shortlisted for PV introduce under clan by clocking abt 60 hours being a traffic warden every morning from 7:00am to 7:45am and rushing to work after the session.
We have always hope that our children can study in this school.

We are very upset and feel cheated. We try to seek clarification from clan but the ppl seems pushing around to school. In my opinion this has nothing relates to school / moe ballot system ans its purely ethics issues.
I hope that my experince be shared with parents to avoid the same situation as us.

Actually the clan in charge told us that it all depends on the number of applicants for that number of school. If number of applicants are low they will also issue to those without any volunteer works. It all depends on your luck so when we heard we still volunteered. Abt 2 years ago my fren joined the clan 1.5 years and never volunteers but go to do RC. Ironically RC never issued the 2B letter , it was the huay kuan who issued 2B letter. They issued all letters to those who never volunteered but above 1 year. My fren told me during the balloting heard from those present they din do volunteer work

In this case, it is the clan's policy that is at fault. They cannot make it such that it \"all depends on the number of applicants\"! It will always result in cases where some applicants actually do more while others seemingly get a free ride. If they want to implement the PV policy, then they should do it across the board for everyone. -
This is the reason why we are so upset. This has defeat the purpose by voluntering as PV via clan as school does not accept PV anymore. This is so unfair for us as it has definitely minimise our chances competiting in phase 2B.
The clan cannot simply issue the referal letter simply depends on the number of applicant! In this case there is no purpose of doing volunterring work!
We have wrote to clan and still no reply from them, they might just treated us as one of the unsatisfyied unsucessful ballot parents.
We have wrote to them for explanation even prior the ballot day. -
Hi All!
Anyone did PV at Southview Primary School before? Going for an interview next week, kinda anxious!

Since there is unfairness coming from hokkien clan : some got free ride no need to do any work still can get letter, while others slog like a Slave to clock hour by hour tediously, higher authority like Moe should step in to intervene, prevent entry into primary schools issued by Hokkien clan :
Unless can clan ensure fairness across the board by making everyone clock the minimum number of hours required, and clan is accountable to a higher authority
How can Hokkien clan allow unfairness to prevail across the board ?
High time for moe to look into the clan, find out what is going on inside -
Doramummy:
Were you told of the policy before you signed up for the PV, that it depends on the number of applicants? If yes, that would mean that you have accepted the terms, just like larkspur when she signed up. It would be difficult to seek recourse then, after the fact. This is the reason why we are so upset. This has defeat the purpose by voluntering as PV via clan as school does not accept PV anymore. This is so unfair for us as it has definitely minimise our chances competiting in phase 2B.

No, it doesn't make it \"fairer\" to you. But hopefully, the clan would relook into its policies to create a more equitable means of dispensing its recommendation letters. -

Your friend did not receive RC letter probably he has an attitude issue there or did not meet min attendance required thus RC did not issue him the letter.
Actually, I have no idea what a clan member does to get that letter. My neighbour registered via 2B under clan and he told me openly that he didn't need to do much and did not attend most meetings.
Agree with Doramummy, it's not fair to those who did all the sh!t work but still got balloted out.
Agree with Chief that hopefully, the clan would relook into its policies to create a more equitable means of dispensing its recommendation letters.
