All About Full-Time Maids

hquek:
I am one of those lesser beings who eat left over food.I assume that this was either a cultural practice (ie they dun eat leftovers), or they are a upper breed of beings.
For someone to tell my kids to eat leftovers, they better to practise that first.
I pack left over food for lunch to work almost everyday!
Don't know why got so much food left after every meal.
It's a blessing actually to have 天天有余! -

hi carebear, please don't take offense....I eat leftovers also, and I always wanted to bring leftovers for lunch...but somehow my mum makes sure there isn't enough to do that - so gave up the idea...it's usually one or two dishes that was cooked more (if there is).

I was a bit miffed when I discovered my ex-maid's practice of not eating left over food. Never actually confronted or asked her why. It's ok to have food preferences (eg eat this/dun eat that), but I don't like it when she can eat it on that day, and avoid it studiously the next...buey song lah. -
I have sent another maid back to the agency again :x
This one was lazy, forgetful, and bad-tempered. On the second day with us, she went to sleep before 10pm, even though all of us were still awake. Knocked on her door and asked her to go and wash the cups etc after my kids finished their milk. Told her she can only sleep after this is done.
Next day, brought her out to dinner at restaurant with us. Reached home at about 9.30pm. Went over to neighbour's house for awhile. She went to sleep again :x :x :x Woke her up again to wash the cups.
The fourth day, asked her to clean the windows. MIL checked and asked her to clean again as not clean enough. She looked unhappy.
Fifth day, she was supposed to hang out the clothes. Left some in the washing machine (duno for what :x ) DH saw and asked her. She said no place to hang. Rubbish! She still had the cheek to laugh when we told her off.
Decided we had enough and sent her packing. -
mummy of 2:
oh dear....hope your next maid is a better one. I really cannot understand why they bother to make the trip here if they don't want to work.

I sure hope
I can't understand too. We are already very nice employers, and we are not asking her to do a lot also. Mainly hosuework. She doesn't need to help with looking after the kids or anything else.
If all she wants to is eat and sleep, then no point coming to work in S'pore. -
Admummy:
i discovered panadol on the toilet vanity top, asked her did she take the pills, she said yes and turn her back on me, facing the sink and do washing..then i said to her (despite back facing me), if u take medicine, u must let me know...but she did not turn around to face me or acknowledge ..so i said \"did u hear me\" then she mumble yes (still back facing me)..dun u think she's rude?
My maid has the same attitude problem. Whenever I point out something she does which I don't approve, she'll do the same thing - turn her back on me or pretend to wash something in the sink. She also used to show a black face whenever I ask her to do something. It's better now since my DH specifically told her not to show us any black face. He said something like \"I'm not someone you want to p*ss off\". He's very straight forward and not scared of confrontation at all. -

No lah hquek, i am not offended. My kids call me the scavenger.
Anything they don't want, they will ask me 1st, in case if i want.
Ya, one of my previous maids, a good cook, also did not eat left overs.
She ratther eat instant noodles than eat left overs.
To me, nevermind lah, home cooked food better than outside food, so i tah pao left overs to work. -

The best thing about the maids I've hired....they dun eat leftovers but they can't cook to save their lives. All of them stand one side to see my dad cook, but the first still wasn't able to pick up any bit of his skills...except perhaps kaya (cos that involves constant stirring).

me too, anything my kids can't finish, it goes down my chute....that's why I'm expanding horizontally.

Mummy of 2 I think with maids, you need to be very firm. No jokes and no chit chat with them. Once you start to be nice to them they will dare to show black face. Except for the previous Myanmar maid, all my other maids don’t dare to show black face to me. I learn this the hard way. When they first step into your house, I do not open up to her and I treat her very business like. Why don’t you try this method and see whether your new maid will still give you black face. Also, you should try to give her black face too inorder for her to know how its like.
Maybe we should also put this in as a houserule!!! Aiyo! Ha…too many rules!! -
:? Not sure if mine is the best way. I don't talk personal with them, sometimes ask a bit of questions only...but I have never been friend friend with them (I'm not the type that easily opens up lah).
I do joke a bit with them, if only so that she dun keep crying when I tell her this not right, that not right.
But when it's time to be serious, my 'bao gong bin (face)' comes out
