My 7 yr old son just had his health screening done in school recently. His height is 1.23m and weight is 27kg and the school nurse indicated that he is overwieght. I checked with our family doctor and was told that his weight is perfectly normal. Any comments?

        hi

you may want to reference to Health Promotion Board's Weight-for-Height for Boys (6-18 years) Percentile Chart

        http://www.hpb.gov.sg/edumaterials/download.aspx?id=5630

Based on this chart, your child is indeed heavy for his height.

No offence, seems to me slightly overweight.

However, it is important to note if the weight is contributed by the bones.
If he looks fit and not chubby, there should be no concern or worry.

He is fit but a little rounded, though I don’t think one will use "fat" to describe him. He does a few sports weekly and eats well-balanced meals. Based on BMI, his weight is ok but I understand that we cannot use BMI for kids because they still have "baby fats". I wonder when is the percentile chart used by HPB done…

Parents with P1 kids, what is your child’s height and weight?
