All About Full-Time Maids

Not surprised by these stories. At a queue in NTUC, I once witnessed a maid stepping on a pencil the 1 year old baby was playing with (don’t ask me why anyone would allow a 1 y/o to play with pencil); and then gave the same pencil to the child to play and put in the mouth…she didn’t even wipe!!! :x :x
Was so angry that I told her loudly she never clean…and she started scolding me. So I gave it back to her and called her ‘dirty maid’ to her face. So angry that I could only go into a spiel about karma in my mind…speechless.
My mum ever see maids standing around and chatting, and the kids they mind playing near a BIG DRAIN…
All these stories why I would never ever trust a baby (or a young child who couldn’t talk) to a maid. There are good ones around - but I don’t want to encounter a bad one. -
lovekidsverymuch/Andaiz/hquek : thank you for your views !!!
dont really have much time to write a longer response to your replies, but in essence, once the kids has a bedtime routine (be it me, or any helper), the kids sld stick with it, and not change according to the helper - that is my \"problem\" here - the helper tends to stay till he is fast asleep then continuing to do her work - i dont have an issue with it, cuz she doesn't need to do much at home, but i'm afraid my boy gets too used to it, and cant fall asleep on his own.
On the other hand, my 4 yr DD is terrible !! she doesn;'t nap in the afternoons - so i've sorta given up on her ... heehee i say that in a loving way
Happy midweek all !! -
exactly

was just posting in another thread that my DD 4 yrs refuses to sleep in the afternoon - and i dont want the helper to \"force\" her to nap ... already she has a \"fear\" of napping ...

happychick, each kid's different. My dd2 stopped having naps at 4 yo as well. Now that she's on extended day in K2, she comes home deadbeat and power naps for about 1/2 to 1 hour from 4pm till early dinner time.exactly

Bottom line is don't fight them!

Andaiz : wow !!! what activities does she do in school ??
if she naps till dinner time, what time does she sleep at night ??
yah, the more you fight, the more they will fight back !!! these little creatures  -
I once saw a little boy run across a busy road by himself. All the cars had to screech to a stop, two stopping inches before hitting him. The boy stopped dead in his track, shocked. The maid who was a distance away just strolled slowly to the boy, like nothing happened. I was so angry.
Every morning I see maids walking kids to school, some with the kids running in front, some with the kids lagging far behind. -
I have seen a maid...walking and holding an umbrella under the hot hot sun. The child was playing alongside her. Umbrella is for the maid, not the child.

minnie, you can set password in your computer unless she is so good she can hack through your password!! But if she has a degree then she probably won't work long, I guess. So make sure you spell out the conditions to her.
I just interviewd our neighbour's maid who was referred by my current maid. She seems really unhappy with her current employer, complaining not getting enough food as her they are Indian vegetarians. She is a single mother with a 2-year old baby. I asked her about her computer secretary degree and it turned out it's only a certificate and not a degree. So don't think she's sophisticated enough to crack the password on my PC
However, I'm still not so sure if she is good or not. Afraid she'll turn out to be a whiner. Also, does the fact that she got pregnant by accident imply any inherent problems with her character?
We also interviewed another one in the Philippines over the phone. This one used to work in the same house with my current employer. She has experience taking care of 3 kids there and she seems quite cheerful on the phone and mentioned several times that \"honesty\" is her best quality.
My DH is neutral to both but thinks it maybe easier to hire a transfer maid. Both of them were born in the year of ox (usually more hard working), one is a libra and the other is scorpion. Yes, I'm resorting to astrology as they are quite accurate in predicting a person's character

Could anyone kindly advise do I need to give my maid 7 days advance notice before I send her home? Is this a new requirement from MOM or is this just a fuss that my agent pull on me?
My maid has finished her 2-year contract already and was hoping to renew her contract with me but I have decided not to retain her as she has too many emotional baggages. I am afraid she may kick up a fracas if I gave her such long notice.
Does anyone has any agents’ contact who does picking up of maid and sending her to airport for a fee?
Thanks for any advice.
