Mathsparks, thanks for your comment. CL exam is taken twice at mid yr and yr end at sec 4 for pupils taking normal Chinese, not higher Chinese. Pupils taking higher Chinese take Chinese exam at sec 3 mid yr. These were my understandings.....

Thanks xxjustakidxx! So RV should also be doing HCL in Sec 4. So it seems in IP schools, HCL students will just skip 'O' Level CL.

Last year ! year 1 was 背唐诗, this year @ year 2 is 背宋词. I actually like the idea of memorising all these for the kids, like 很有墨水 :love:

Saw a article about this 新汉语水平考试（HSK). After asking dd, she say this year, she has to take this. Its compulsory by the school.

May I know what the objective is taking HSK. How is the standard like comparing to our CL or HCL? Is it neccessary to take this exam?

no idea. one fine day my kid just brought back the cert in a brown envelop ....also don't know when they did it in school

Wah, P3! My kid took it in P5. She took HSK(基础) Proficency Test and scored almost full mark. She took it outside the school on one Saturday. The test consists of 听力理解，语法结构，阅读理解, all 140 questions. In fact she wanted to take HSK Elementary-Intermediate (初中等) but teacher said it is more for secondary students. I think some primary schools already take HSK Elementary-Intermediate (初中等) test. Sec students should be taking Elementary-Intermediate level(初中等) or Advanced level(高等).

Daisyt, What level is your dd be taking?
