SPED school means special education school that caters to special needs children. Rainbow is a SPED school.

Children, whether NT or with special needs, may manifest 'strange' or inappropriate behaviors during different times. I guess its part of growing up. Difference could be that it is easier to correct NT kids than special needs children as the latter is more rigid. My point is, whether you drop out of SPED school or not may not be the way to solve the problem of your child having strange behaviors, at the expense of the support that SPED schools can give to your child.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not here to push for SPED schools, and its up to parents to decide based on the child's needs. Just hoping to provide some clarity on the thinking process as to why we choose to or not to attend SPED school.

            Hi

Anyone can share how you train your child to be independent in getting ready for school in the morning with the morning routine eg brush teeth, take breakfast, get dressed etc without having to verbal remind a few times everyday?

Child doesn’t like to go to school.Think he trying to delay the morning routine to delay time to go school

              Hi,

my boy is 6 years old this year. He is supposed to be in Primary 1 next year, but I delay him one more year. I will be arranging him to go to Pathlight. I supposed most mothers with autism kids will know that they had to take a IQ test 1st. He will be taking his IQ test in Jan 2016.

Can any mothers share their child IQ test experience with me? I want to prepare him for the IQ test. Thank you.

                Hi

Anyone has encountered child telling you in the morning he doesn’t want to go childcare? How to tell him so that he doesn’t dislike school.

                  Hi ripley08,
You can google IQ tests for 6yo and let your child practice such questions every day. Can also try to expose him to more general knowledge, eg why every car must have a car plate number.
I was told preparation can improve score by 10-20. All the best

                    Hi Snow24,

Disliking something or someone comes from bad experiences and telling him something may not work so well. Try making going to school a fun experience. What u may want to do is to create a fun time while preparing for school, like singing schools, complimenting him on how well he does his tasks etc. Just get the mood right so that he feels excited about school. I feel that the fun factor is very important.

                    Hope it helps.

                      Hi

I have a coming to 4 yrs old son who is suspected ASD but high functioning and quite hyper active too. He is now attending child care and also having 3 therapies sessions per week few months ago, we feel that his behaviour is still not improving and sometimes having hard time with him. I am considering Early Intervention Program but would appreciate anyone to have good recommendatio for gov. Or private ones? Or is it really good to have EIP or just stick to therapies sessions? Any advises & feedbacks are welcome. Thanks in advance!

                        Hi C3lin3,
Imho the smaller teacher student in early intervention does help in engaging your child. The teachers are trained to handle such kids. But bear in mind it is no silver bullet. It takes time.

You should find a govt one near your home. Where do you stay? My experience is that the private ones are poorly equipped and may be useful only as a stop gap measure while you wait for a vacancy in a govt one.
