    • RE: Police investigating 'unnatural death' of 14-year-old boy

      Reese:

When a person commits suicide, he thinks there is not point in living any more and that the world will be better off without him. It's also an escape from having to deal with the problems and sufferings he has been through. Another reason is, he is no longer in the right state of mind and has lost it. The immediate solution is to just die to set himself free from the mental torture.
      So true!

Maybe parents can take this opportunity to talk to your teens about suicides and what happens after death (per your beliefs).

      Interesting word - parentocracy

I will admit I am guilty of this. But is it so wrong?

      Hi,

I'm new in this forum group. Wanna ask if any of your kids taking Vitamin B12? Recently my 4 yrs old non verbal ASD boy keeps getting tounge ulcers and heard that it might be Vitamin B12 deficiency. The lack of B12 also causes speech delays. Anyone has any knowledge or experience to share?
      Hi Summerp83,
Maybe you can consult a GP whether to do a blood test to confirm B12 deficiency?
Is your child using a SLS free toothpaste? My child rarely has ulcers since he switched to Biotene SLS free toothpaste, available in Unity.

      Hi ImMeeMee,

Thanks for your advice. Haiz... actually I also not very keen on play date as I still feel emotionally down when I see my son unable to socialize with other kids but must preserve!
      Hi Couragemom,

Perhaps board games or Wii games might be better for play dates. Swatting mosquitos and bowling are less gender specific. Your child can learn to take turns, make appropriate remarks and can help boost his confidence if he plays well (with more practice).

When my child was in primary school, we used to arrange play dates with classmates, one at a time. It is inevitable that my child will not actively participate in a large group.

Even now at 19, I am still a little worried about his social skills. He can communicate professionally, discussing homework or doing projects. But when classmates wanted to do lunch together, he actually said he wanted to eat alone!

    • RE: In-law problems?

I think it is very hard to achieve "fairness" in caring for our elders, because different pov.

Long ago, DH and I were discussing how much to give his mom and my parents monthly.
His sister gives his mom $1k while my brother gives my parents $500.
He thinks it is fair if we match what his sister and my brother give. Fair meh?
I think we should give $1,500 to my parents and nothing to his mom. Then each elderly have $1k, fair right?
I think same logic can be applied to the use of our precious time.

My point is, we should not decide how much to do based on what other siblings are doing, but what our elders need. We need to fulfill our duties as children to the best of our abilities, period.

      Hi bb_mom,

Do you steam rice directly on the metal tray? Will rice stick on the tray when cooked?
I have been using rice cooker but want to switch to steaming rice.
      Thanks.

    • RE: SCHOOL BULLY

Perhaps the victims feel that their parents have bigger problems in life and didn’t want to burden them further? Perhaps they know that their parents will be really heartbroken if they knew, so they chose not to tell? Not fair to jump to any conclusions.
