Another question, understand that each child adapts differently but how does MOE provides guidance to the schools, if any, in integrating returning students back to the local system?

As far as I have seen, MOE does absolutely nothing to help returning Singaporeans in the \"softer\" aspects of adapting or integrating. They have policies such as SPERS and MT exemption, but that's as far as it goes. It's really up to the parents to alert the teachers to potential issues, tactfully suggest ways to handle them, prepare the child (not just academically, but socially and culturally too), and watch out for any difficulties and help sort them out as they arise. My girls have returned to Singapore school for immersion 3 times plus their final return 2 yrs ago, and I have found that teachers are quite accommodating and understanding. Some may be more experienced if they have had other returnees under their charge before.

I am trying to get my son to take the placement test for ACS international sch prior to his psle in oct this year. As he is extremely poor in math (besides the other borderline subjects), im worried he may not pass the placement test/DSA.

Can any kind parent or student, esp those who have taken the dsa paper,tell me what kind of questions will come out? I tries to ask the school but was told very generally. I dont know how difficult the paper standard is compared to psle although its only 18 questions.any sample questions would be greatly appreciated. Im so desperate now…many many thanks

If your son is weak in Maths, are you sure he can \"tahan\" the placement tests? Each (English and Math) paper is 2-hours long - English paper require alot of writing (essay) & long comprehension passages and the Math paper includes some logical/mensa-type questions. [Also, the fees for one semester is $12,000].

Yes i have considered the fees and all and no choice, still keen on acs international.

The sch told me eng is 1.5hr and math 1hr as opposed to whats indicated on website…

Further the sch told me its "psle" type questions…mensa qns seems very difficult…

Anyone has insight to the math qns?? Pls enlighten.

Does anyone know if the 3 "local international schools" (ACS/HC/SJI International) are under MOE? Or are they completely independent? If under MOE, what are the MOE requirements? Is there any difference between them and other international schools in terms of similarity to or difference from the Singapore education system? Thanks!

HCIS follow the school terms and holidays system of MOE whereas I believe SJII and ACSII does not ( correct me if I am wrong)

He has attended international school for 2 years overseas, and returned to Singapore for K1 and K2 for the time being.

As a Singaporean citizen, MOE would expect your son to go to a local school; that is, the dual nationality does not excuse someone from the duties, responsibilities and privileges of Singaporean citizenship. Therefore, like single-nationality Singaporeans, you will have to apply, through the international school, for special permission from MOE to attend an international school.

MOE will treat the application on a case-by-case basis. Clearly, if you apply to an international school associated with the other nationality, then your odds are improved. For example, a dual-national with French nationality would stand a better chance applying to the French school than to the Australian school - other things being equal. This is especially so if you intend to move to the other country within a few years and you want to ease the transition into that country's educational system.

We do know of Singaporeans and PRs in international schools.

International schools tend to be less demanding than the local ones.
Acceptance is at the discretion of the school, so you may like to check with them ...

PR is not a nationality status.

International schools tend to be more demanding in their admissions' procedures than the local ones, but presumably you meant post-entry? If so, international schools usually have much broader curricula and different emphases and objectives, so be careful not to compare apples and oranges.

Hi All, I have reloacted to Singaspore fr Shanghai and I plan to arrange primary school for our 5-year boy. I was told it was difficult for foreigners to enroll local primary school. May i know how i could check any information of international school eg list of schools, parent comments etc? Thanks a lot.
