I read the recommendation in another forum before and finally enrolled my girl in the january class and she loves it. Most importantly, in just a few lessons, we see improvements, definitely in her interest to WANT TO READ which makes a big difference in final results, I think. Before, we would read or ask her if she wants to read and try to teach her, but no results. After just 3 lessons, she tried to read at home on her own. By 8th lessons, she was very willing to read with me everyday and tried to sound out words. After reading daily with her (using recommendations from the teacher who personalise materials for my gal to some extent), she can now read about 200 words since Jan when we first started! THANK YOU!! We would never have found this programme and the wonderful teacher if not because of your kind recommendation. We have signed her up for Term 2 and 3 now after chatting with other parents whose kids have been with the prog since last year.

Thanks for your enlightenment, guess whether what color most important is the speaking english. Guess I going to trial here & there before commit on the phonics program

You are welcome.. well no matter what, every parent will have their

individual preferences. Not a matter of right or wrong as it is entirely

subjective in this aspect. How old is your child now, bro?

I just reread my own post and realised how confusing my post must be. Actually I enrolled my kid in Feb after seeing Charmaine_chong's post/recommendation (but I first read about it last year from parents who said similiar things in another forum), though the class itself started in January. I hope she will keep up the pace of recognising about 15-20 words a week. But I think after the sight words are all covered, it will prob tapered off slightly.

The colour of the teacher doesn't matter as long

as the language spoken is proper, singlish free
and with clear pronunciation. We have local
teachers who are comparable to the golden
ones. Role model also has to come
from parents if they want their children to
speak clearly and properly... cos a weekly
enrichment lesson will also not bear fruit if
it ain't put into practice. Just my 2 cents.

And as a parents, we must also continue to monitor their progress by practising with them.....the teacher had advised that we need the child to practise reading the homework story every nite to get the best results...

Everything needs practice to make it perfect.

It may be practising reading now... but later on in Pri Sch there will be so
many more.. Be it music lessons, ballet, taekwondo, dance... all there is
to it is practice... and for some others, talent also plays a part. :lol:

With regular home reinforcements, our children can get used to a healthy
routine of revision. Children who aren't used to be monitored or who aren't
used to home revision may be put off from studying and may just start to
hate learning if the parent were to start when they think the child is much
older. If children get the hang of this routine early, it would seem like a
norm to hit the books after dinner with you.

It benefits the parent as well since the parent gets to monitor the progress
of the child and also be updated on the changes of our school curriculums..

This is understandable as each individual person has his/her own limitations.
What we do is try to do what we can for the best of our children, our family
and ourselves. This is why some parents outsource the need for learning
certain subjects to teachers who know these stuff... so even in the event
that you're not able to commit a fixed and disciplined routine to teach your
children certain things, you know the person you have engaged to assist u
and your child with it would get the job done and with a good teacher it wud
be done right. :celebrate:

This takes off the pressure from parents with un-fixed working schedules or
children staying with grandparents (etc). Different strokes for different folks
they say..

I'm sure every parent is trying their best to balance everything that goes on
in their daily affairs. Take heart that golden or not, there are good teachers

my gal is k2 now. my boy is n1 now. i'm hoping to enrol a class to get my gal prepared for primary 1. cos realised she doesn't really know how to blend words. not able to read new words. seeing this, i want to start my boy young too.

after reading thru the previous many posts, noticed that icreativelearner & lorna whiston comes with many good comments.

could anybody advise me which is suitable or more suitable? :?: i'm located at sengkang. maybe that's a difference in the branch/teachers there?

icreativelearner (or icl) program for preschooler starts from N2. they now have a crash course but that's for K1. I'm not sure what they have for K2 kids.

Please note that icl does not do phonics per se - my k2 boy doesn't quite know how to blend words, but he can read and usually gloss over unknown words (not ideal). DS1 so far has not had problems with spelling. Very happy with their program - in fact DS2 has just started (being N2 this year).

For rectification, I'll tell him to refer to me any words he don't know how to read, don't guess. And sometimes I'll ask him to write down 5 new words and we check dictionary together.

n2 kid meaning 2006? so my boy wouldn't be able to attend together with the sister ;(

icreativelearner not so much for reading new words but for grammer, creative writing, etc? will enrolling in the class help with primary 1? now, i'm getting very anxious. don't know whether she's prepared for her primary 1. what happens if she failed all her subjects in primary 1
